Andrew Charles McGlynn won two races during a career over jumps that lasted for five seasons. A conditional with Jack Berry, he had his first ride at Market Rasen on November 23, 1979, when Double Secret was beaten a long way in the White Swan Selling Hurdle.
His first success came at Haydock Park on January 9, 1981, when Tom Horn took the lead after the final flight and, despite becoming unbalanced on the run-in, hung on to land the Bolton Selling Hurdle by half a length. He kept the ride but was unplaced in two subsequent outings.
Andy temporarily relinquished his licence but came back riding for Richard Whitaker the following season, and it was on one of his horses, Barryphillips Disco, that he recorded his other victory when holding off the challenge of Imperial Amber to take the Cuckoo Opportunity Novices’ Hurdle by a head at Newcastle on December 4, 1981. He had been placed on both of the four-year-old’s two previous starts. They had one more disappointing outing together.
Andy had his final ride at Newcastle on March 17, 1984, when Precious Sue finished a close third in the Belford Novices’ Hurdle (Division 1).
