National Hunt jockey Raymund Magee rode ten winners spread over four seasons in the mid-1950s.
He had his first ride on the unplaced Ficra in the Keats Lane Novices Hurdle (Division 1) at Windsor on January 9, 1954. He rode his first winner on March 8 of that year when ten-year-old The Editor won the Dover Selling Handicap Chase at Wye, beating Miss Doubtful, the mount of Harry Reed, by two lengths. He won three more races on The Editor before the end of the season.

There were four more victories over the next 18 months, and he made a promising start tote 1956/57 season with a double at Stratford on September 29, aboard Coast Grand in the Railway Handicap Hurdle and Dos De Junio in the Falstaff Hurdle, both trained by Combroke, Warwick permit holder Frank Gaskell. Two days earlier Dos De Junio had run out with Raymund at the first flight at Ludlow, but now made amends, winning by five lengths from Michael Scudamore’s mount Troubador.

Despite that good start and losing his 7lb claim in the process with the tenth win of his career, the Stratford double proved to be the last two victories of Raymund Magee’s career. He had his last ride in the Chelsham Selling Handicap Chase at Lingfield Park on March 19, 1958, when his mount, Copperfield, refused.
