Peter John Martin had a few rides over jumps in the early part of 1977 and recorded one victory.
He finished third on his first ride when Moonstrike occupied that position at the end of the Sawtry Selling Hurdle at Huntingdon on January 27. The pair turned out again five days later at Chepstow and comfortably landed the Stone Opportunity Selling Hurdle by 12 lengths, having taken the lead just after halfway.
The five-year-old Moonstrike was trained by Patrick Haslem and had two more starts with Peter aboard. Having been unplaced at Ludlow on March 3, Moonstrike finished last and lame at Devon & Exeter on April 20. That was Peter’s final ride, and it would appear that Moonstrike was the only horse he rode during his brief career as a jockey, comprising just four rides.
