Michael MacArdle

Amateur jockey Mr Michael J. O'H MacArdle Jr. died at the Cottage Hospital, Drogheda, on Friday, March 31 1939, from injuries received when falling from Tommy D in the Champion Hunters' Cup at Louth Hunt Races the previous afternoon. Earlier that day, he had won the second race on Harlem.

Michael, the only son of Mr and Mrs Michael MacArdle of Milltown Grange, was a member of the well-known Dundalk family of Brewers. He was a popular rider at Irish Steeplechase and point-to-point meetings and had recently ridden at the Maze and Downpatrick fixtures.
