Club Happenings

DECA

RHS DECA is pleased to announce that two of our DECA members, Cameron McDonough and Saachi Patil, had the opportunity to present their business concept, H20 Recycle & Flow, at the Kean University Business Plan Competition on December 2nd and won FIRST place! Their paper was selected by the NJ DECA State Advisor from last year's top 6 states competition papers, and submitted to be entered into the competition.  Cameron and Saachi had the chance to pitch their idea in a 6 minute presentation and then had to respond to 4 minutes of questions by the investing/judging panel via zoom.  They competed against other HS students as well as college students in this competition.  RHS DECA members, chapter officers, and the advisors are proud of Cameron and Saachi and wanted to share the wonderful news with all of you.  View their executive summary (pictured to the right) to learn a little more about the proposal/idea they discussed.

InvenTeam at MIT-BioGen BioTech in Action

On December 4th, four RHS InvenTeam members Emily Truszkowski, Clare Walicki, Elliott Ewell, and Hailey Haglid, were invited to speak about “Inventors and Sustainability” at the MIT-BioGen BioTech in Action Program.  Their 40-minute presentation reached over 200 high school students across the US and internationally. They not only spoke eloquently about how the RHS InvenTeam put Sustainable Design at the forefront in the development of the Solar Aqua Tech water bottle, but also handled a Q and A session in a highly professional manner. Describing their SAT experience to other high school students on such a large stage was a rewarding and inspiring endeavor. They earned much praise from the organizers.

The MIT-BioGen BioTech in Action Program is co-created by the Biogen Community Lab and the Lemelson-MIT Program to empower a new generation of young scientists and inventors through state-of-the-art virtual programming. Students will have the opportunity to meet and interact with BioGen and MIT employees and obtain an inside view of a biotech company and university.

Advanced Marketing

RHS Advanced Marketing Students recorded ethics public service announcements (PSAs) when learning about the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative.  We selected our favorite PSA and submitted it to the Ethics Challenge.  Voting for the ethics challenge is done through an online campaign/sharing the link.  Voting is limited to 1 video a day from now through December 15th at 4pm.

Student Congress

Student Congress organized Family Feud for some lunchtime fun
with Mr. Kase as the guest host.

Bonjour RHS!

Alice, Student from St. Marie, HS France, doing Q&A on Zoom

The French Club held an event on December 1st with students on both sides of the Atlantic engaging with each other. Asking questions with the French student ambassador of Sainte-Marie High School we learned about school life in France during the pandemic. At the same time, Alice, the ambassador, learned about school life in the United States. Posing questions in both English and French allowed communication with an international perspective that is encouraged in the club.
In total, the 16 students at RHS had a great time meeting our partner abroad. Furthermore, for our next meeting, we will be investigating the cuisine culture
within the United States versus France with a video that will be filmed on RHS cafeteria food and French cantine food.
If you would like to join, do not hesitate to email Madame Palumbo!
