AP Environmental Students Conduct Macroinvertebrate Sampling in Ho-Ho-Kus Brook

This week, Mr. Luo's AP Environmental Science students waded into the Ho-Ho-Kus Brook on campus to sample for aquatic macroinvertebrates as part of a study on aquatic ecosystem health. By assessing the biodiversity of the species found, students can determine if the water quality is high enough to support a wide variety of sensitive species. While there were many of one particular sensitive group of insects, the diversity of organisms found was fairly low. Both classes enjoyed the experience, despite one getting hit by a downpour the instant we reached the brook.

The Yale Whiffenpoofs Visit RHS A Cappella

Green Club Participates in Super Science Saturday

Julia Grant, Sofia Morino & visitors

The RHS Green Club ran two tables this past weekend at Super Science Saturday. They educated the visitors about the ease of running hydroponics and growing plants indoors without soil, as well as the school's Trout in the Classroom program, which allows RHS to raise rainbow trout while learning about the importance of cold water habitat conservation. Students from the club provided mini-tours to Room 391, where enthusiastic visitors got to check out the club's two hydroponics systems and 13 remaining trout. Thanks to all who put on a great event and thanks to everyone who visited our exhibit!
