In the Classroom

Tropical Thursday

Sue Siok and Phil Nyhuis of the RHS Math Department celebrating Tropical Thursday on November 3rd during Spirit Week!

Physics of Sport

Physics CP students watched documentary clips from 1970 when Apollo 14 astronaut, Alan Shepard, famously took a golf ball along with him making him the first person to play golf on the Moon. After taking his second shot, Shepard observed that the ball seemed to travel for "miles and miles and miles." They then studied Tom Brady's throwing mechanics, took the ball to the football field to aim for maximum height and range, and calculated the launch angle and velocity. The class record was 44 mph, and they had fun studying projectile motion on the planet Earth.

Leer es poder

Students in Level 2 Spanish took advantage of the beautiful autumn weather to read their book "El Ekeko'' outdoors.

Students in Mrs. McCullough's Algebra II class playing a game of Battleship.  They paired up and solved quadratic equations by factoring for the quadratic formula.  Correct solutions gave them chances to sink each other's battleships!

Remembering Our Veterans

Ridgewood High School celebrated our local veterans on Wednesday, November 9th by inviting them to RHS for a breakfast and to talk with students about how their military experiences have helped shape their lives and career paths. The veterans were prepared a delicious breakfast by Dr. Bray's foods class, and the students were able to interact with the veterans during the breakfast. For the presentation, each branch of the military was represented and was able to share their desire for joining the service amongst other interesting details about life in the service. Katelyn Dickson led the opening remarks as a leader of the Support Our Troops club and students from Project Interact created welcome posters for our honored guests. The students enjoyed the engaging presentation and honoring our local veterans for their service.

Q&A with Sarah Gnall RHS '20

Applied Engineering Club hosted a Q & A session with Sarah Gnall (RHS’ 20), an outstanding junior majoring in Material Science and Engineering at Lehigh. She holds several leadership roles in sustainability and research heading for prestigious internships, but she always has time to advise underclassmen at RHS. She was there for them during the pandemic and was here again with wise advice and encouragement, especially for female students interested in STEM.

Award Winning Author Visit

The Chinese Club had an award winning author visit! Kevin Chen is born and raised in Taiwan, and currently resides in Berlin, Germany. He came to RHS to talk about Chinese traditional culture and shared his culture perspectives with Chinese Club.

Ridgewood Crew Closes Out The Fall Season At The Head of The Schuylkill Regatta

Ridgewood, New Jersey, October 30, 2022 – On October 30, 2022, Ridgewood Crew raced 19 boats on the 50th Anniversary of the Head of The Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. According to the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta, the 2022 event will continue a tradition of exceptional fall racing that began fifty years ago in the home of American rowing. While the expansive scope of the two-day Regatta today bears little resemblance to its 1970 roots, the spirit of the Regatta endures: a fall race showcasing high-caliber crews as well as those new to the sport.  This year, 261 clubs participated, with Ridgewood Crew racing nineteen boats.

Eagle Scout - Henry Rivera

Henry Rivera, a RHS Junior, became an Eagle Scout on October 26, 2022.  His Eagle Project benefitted Never Alone Again, a local non-profit organization in Teaneck, offering support for victims of domestic abuse and violence.  Henry led a team of Boy Scouts to completely overhaul NAG’s resource room by decluttering, cleaning, painting and reorganizing.  The Resource Room can now function again as a meeting space and community food bank and diaper drive headquarters.
