Chemistry Honors students recently put science to the test in an exciting, hands-on project focused on car safety. Students designed and built
their own airbags using a chemical reaction between baking soda and vinegar. By applying stoichiometric calculations,
they worked to create the perfect airbag—one that used all reactants efficiently with no leftovers.
Once their designs were complete, it was time for a thrilling “crash test.” Each airbag was dropped from the third-floor staircase
with a raw egg as its brave passenger. After impact, students carefully examined the eggs to determine how well
their airbags absorbed the shock, checking for cracks or breaks.
Following the tests, students used the SCAMPER creative thinking process to redesign and improve their airbags, making connections between
their models and real-world automotive safety systems. This innovative project not only encouraged problem-solving and creativity,
but also demonstrated how chemistry plays a vital role in protecting lives and making our world safer every day.
Our driver education classes recently welcomed Shani Jarvis, Outreach Manager at AAA Northeast, who spoke with students about the dangers of driving under the influence of marijuana.
The presentation, Shifting Gears: The Blunt Truth about Marijuana Impairment, is designed to:
Explore the effects of marijuana on the developing teenage brain
Give students a hands-on experience of cognitive impairment through the use of simulation goggles
Demonstrate the real-world consequences that can result from impaired driving
Provide evidence-based information that challenges common misconceptions about marijuana use
Explain the physical and cognitive processes affected by marijuana
Reinforce why driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal and dangerous
Mr. Cronk’s AP Art History class visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art on December 18th to view artworks they have been studying in class.
Students enjoyed a beautiful day in New York City exploring the museum and discussing works of art firsthand.

On Tuesday, January 13th, 190 RHS DECA students traveled to Ramapo College to compete in the district competition. Students participated in
events including hospitality, entrepreneurship, marketing, and finance. Sixty-one students qualified to advance to the state competition,
which will be held in Atlantic City in early March, where they will compete against students from across New Jersey.
Project Interact recently made a donation to Families for Families, an organization that connects compassionate community members with families transitioning out of unhoused situations by providing essential services and programs that support long-term stability and self-sufficiency.
Members also assembled goodie bags for the Ignatian Spirituality Project, which supports women recovering from addiction.
Congratulations to our most recent Member of the Month, Baran Tari.
