Senior Focus

This week started the beginning of Senior Focus classes, which are instrumental in helping guide our current seniors through the college application process! Our team of school counselors from the Guidance Department have introduced the students to Scoir (the new college application platform being used at RHS this year), gone over the teacher recommendation process, and have been a valuable resource to students who are narrowing down their list of schools to apply to in the coming weeks. The counselors have also gone over the College Representative Visit process. So far, there are over 150 colleges and universities who have planned visits to RHS this fall! These college visits are a great opportunity for our seniors to meet with admissions counselors, ask questions about their institutions, and demonstrate interest in some of their top school choices. Seniors: be sure to check the Senior Focus Google Classroom for updates and information and to sign up for College Visits using your Scoir account!

Around the Building

September 11th Remembrance

This past Monday marked 22 years since the September 11th attacks. In commemoration of this solemn day in American history, a thoughtful speech was given by Greg Zaino as the RHS Chamber Choir performed "America the Beautiful" under the direction of Natalie Cardillo.

Always remember, never forget.

RPS Later Start Initiative

The Ridgewood School District received praise for it's implementation of a later start time at RHS on CBS New York's "On Call with Dr. Kumar" this week. Dr. Nidhi Kumar, a cardiovascular disease specialist, noted that the benefits of later start times and increased sleep times for teens include things like reduced obesity risk, better academic performance, and even lower rates of depression. Annual Class Meetings

Mr. Nyhuis, Mr. Bailey, Ms. Wood, and the RHS Grade Advisors conducted the annual class meetings today with the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade classes as a whole. Each class met as a group and discussed grade relevant information, such as school policies (like attendance and the importance of using school ID's to enter the building) and grade specific events to look forward to throughout the year. The freshman class especially had the opportunity to ask questions and meet some of the staff members who will be instrumental figures in their four years here at RHS!

         Club Happenings

French Club

The French Club held its first meeting this Wednesday, Sept.13th during unit lunch to welcome new and returning members to the club. To start off the school year, new leaders were introduced and provided a brief introduction. Around twenty members participated in the club's first meeting and a fun game of Jeopardy was enjoyed along with brownies, chips, and drinks. Join the French Club in Room 332 every Wednesday biweekly to enjoy French culture and food!

RHS Green Club

The Green Club and the Ridgewood Shade Tree Commission is undertaking a new tree planting program called "Adopt a Sapling." On October 14th, the Shade Tree Commission, along with volunteers, will be planting brand new tree saplings, starting in the Orchard School area. You can sign up to have a 5-foot tall sapling planted in front of your home! In exchange, your family would commit to watering the tree 1-2 times weekly in extreme heat.

If you would like to participate, register at www.ridgewoodnj.net or in person at the Stable on Maple Avenue! If you have questions, contact Mr. Luo or Lauren Cocchiere.

Ridgewood Girls Flag Football

There's plenty to celebrate when it comes to the RHS Girls Flag Football Team! The reigning 2023 New Jersey State Flag Football Champions were featured this week on ABC's GMA3 program. The team was honored for their accomplishment and even surprised with a check to attend the NFL Flag Championship at this year's ProBowl in Orlando! Congratulations to the team and Coach McDermott!
