Air Bags- Where Chemistry Saves Lives
Chemistry Honors students engage in an innovative project where they simulate car airbags by employing a combination of baking soda and vinegar. Through stoichiometric calculations, they aim to design optimal airbags that utilize the reactants completely, leaving no excess behind.
To test their designs, students conduct a crash test by dropping their airbags from the third-floor staircase, using an egg as a passenger. Following this experiment, they evaluate the effectiveness of their airbag by examining the condition of the egg. Students then apply the SCAMPER thinking process to refine their designs, comparing their creations to standard car airbags. This project highlights the vital role of Chemistry in enhancing safety and saving lives daily!
ASL III Gets Chopped!
The ASL III students recently participated in a Chopped Challenge by creating and presenting meals in the target language. The challenge is completely "voice off" and any group caught speaking can have an ingredient stolen by another group! They created 3 different dishes using playdough to demonstrate their mastery of food sign.
