In Tribute

Morgan Blann is a 7th grader from Brick Township, and participant in the national program, Running 4 Heroes. This is a program in which one mile is run as a tribute each time a first responder is lost in the line of duty.

On Monday, December 5th, she ran one mile in honor of Captain Basil Pizzuto, known to the Ridgewood Public Schools community as a beloved Assistant Principal, mentor, and colleague that we recently lost far too soon.

Basil's comrades in the Saddle Brook Fire Department also took part in the run and had a truck down escort Morgan on her mile. Local first responders who were also in attendance.  News12 reported the story; click here to view: tinyurl.com/news12pizzutorun  To watch the run in it's entirety, click here: https://youtu.be/KZLB9YiITBA

In the Classroom

NJSTEAM Tank Challenge

Twelve Applied Engineering Club teams are preparing to enter the 2023 NJSTEAM Tank Challenge. They recently hosted a Q & A session with RHS’18 Grad Owen Kunzle, an accomplished aeronautic engineer, and RHS'20 Grad Eddie O'Keefe, who is studying Operations Research & Financial Engineering at Princeton University. They are tremendous resources for club members looking for advice on college, summer research programs, and engineering inventions.

RHS Carolers

On December 1st, the RHS Carolers had their annual performance at First Presbyterian Church for the Hobbyist Meeting and pre-school children. The students introduced and directed the songs and received a standing ovation.

Congratulations Carolers!"

Club Happenings

Club exCELL

From November 29th - December 2nd, students from GWMS and RHS (members of club exCELL) participated in a leadership conference in Disney World. Students participated in various activities to expand their knowledge and skills.

The Green Club

The Green Club aims to promote sustainable living among the RHS community. Our projects include managing the school garden, improving recycling rates, diverting cafeteria waste from landfills, and participating in village events. We meet on Wednesdays during lunch in Room 391.

Around the Building

On December 7th, Robin Ha, author of the graphic memoir Almost American Girl, visited RHS and shared her time and talents with students and staff. Ms. Ha presented two hands-on Memoir Comics Workshops, each attended by over 250 students! She also gave a more intimate lunchtime talk with members of the Asian Festival Club. Ms. Ha offered strategies on improving one’s writing and drawing skills, engaged the audience with amusing and poignant stories from her past, and brought out the inner artist in all who attended. When asked how we become writers, Ms. Ha responded with, “You have to write a lot!” Many thanks to the RHS HSA for their generous sponsorship of this event.

Author and Cartoonist Robin Ha Visits RHS

Tell Me Your Story is a schoolwide ELA book group initiative with the goal of increasing empathy and understanding through shared memoir reading. This year over 500 students chose to read Almost American Girl by Robin Ha, which tells her story about immigrating to the United States from South Korea and the challenges of coming of age in a foreign culture.

RHS Wellness Teachers Ms Mitola and Mr Quirk hang the first two ornaments of the year!

Help Decorate the RHS Holiday GIVING TREE

Join the “Spirit of Giving”!  Help the RHS Wellness Department decorate the holiday GIVING TREE by the Scoreboard and the East Ridgewood Ave bridge.

Each $5 donation will “earn” an ornament to adorn the tree. Together, let’s create something that not only looks great, but will get people talking. Each morning, Wellness staff will check the Venmo donation page and have students ADD the number of EARNED ornaments from the previous day. It starts with two,and ends with a fully decorated GIVING TREE!!!
