In The Classroom
The ASL 2 students have been working on interpreting children's books that focus on growing up being Deaf and Hard of Hearing. At the end of the project, some students volunteered to go to Willard Elementary and Somerville Elementary to read their books to the 1st-4th graders. The ASL 2 students also taught some signs to their groups and answered questions about Deaf culture!

PREP students and their dedicated Unified Partners traveled to West Orange High School to take part in the exciting Move the Spectrum Field Day, joining peers from many neighboring high schools. This vibrant, inclusive event gave students the chance to play sports, dance joyfully, meet energetic mascots and inspiring professional athletes, and most importantly—build meaningful friendships. Events like this are a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusion, helping every student feel valued, celebrated, and connected.

Club Happenings
Despite unfriendly weather, students from the RHS Green Club displayed three stations at Ridgewood's Daffodil Festival & Earth Day Fair at Van Neste Square. Just two days after RHS's Sustainability Day, students summoned up the energy to educate the community on the issues of flooding in Ridgewood, the advantages and disadvantages of artificial turf fields, and the potential water savings homeowners could enjoy by using different types of grasses for their lawns. These all fit into the day's theme of H2Optimize, which looks for ways for Ridgewood to promote water conservation to use less water. Even with the chilly temperatures, everyone had a great time!

Sustainability Day 2025 was a great success! 54 students participated in demonstrations to help the school community lead more environmentally-responsible lives, as well learn how environmental issues have affected the Ridgewood community. Topics included a quiz on what items are recyclable, invasive species in Ridgewood, hydroponic gardening, minimizing food waste, endangered species conservation, benefits of biking, Ridgewood water quality, carpooling, urban runoff and flooding in Ridgewood, vegetarian and dairy alternatives, fast fashion, light pollution, waste reduction, comparing grass vs artificial turf, wildflower meadows, and comparing different types of turfgrass. The day even featured our Deputy Mayor, Pam Perron in a speaker panel to discuss local environmental issues. Thanks to everyone who participated and visited all of the demonstrations!
