Well-Deserved Recognition

Senior, Tarun Kalyanaraman has been named member of the month by Ridgewood Emergency Services for his dedication to the organization and supporting fellow volunteers as a certified Emergency Medical Technician.

"I got into EMS because I was inspired to join after learning about public service through the TIES program," he said. "Being able to explore that, I saw how I could help people in need and try to give back to the community. "

Grammy Win for RHS Senior, Alumni

David Song, RHS senior and member of the RHS Chamber Orchestra, has been a member of the The New York Youth Symphony since his freshman year. They made history Sunday evening as the first youth orchestra to ever win a Grammy in the category of ‘Best Orchestral Performance.’  Along with David,  RHS class of 2022 graduates Jiah Lee and Ludia Kim also feature on the album. The youth orchestra recorded the album in November 2020 during the height of the pandemic. Members of the orchestra had to play socially distanced and in three different groups for the recording. According to David, the string players never heard the wind and percussion parts until the recording was finished and played for the students.

David is in the process of auditioning at Vanderbilt Blair School of Music and plans to be a double major in Music Performance and Business when he graduates from RHS.

NJSTEAM Tank Challenge

Nine teams of the Applied Engineering Club made it to the 2023 NJSTEAM Tank Challenge Regional. As they were preparing for the next round of competition (mid-Feb to mid-March), they reached out to school staff, community experts, and particularly, the NJSTEAM Tank mentors – Director Ms. Siehl, Mrs. Greenberg and Mrs. Kliesch (who came in-person) for their valuable tips and advice. They were also grateful for InvenTeam Alum Hailey Haglid (RHS’22), who stopped by to share her electronics expertise.
The Club leaders, Alex Mueller and Michael Ip are in Rm 397 during lunch every day to coach the teams. Invention culture is alive at RHS.

In The Studio

The RHS TV Club and RHS Recording Studio are excited to release the second episode of their new series, In the Studio, featuring the Ridgewood HS Jazz Big Band. Based off of the popular "Tiny Desk Concert" series by NPR, the goal of the In the Studio series is to feature the variety of musicians and ensembles at Ridgewood HS in all genres of music. Both the TV Club and Recording Studio Club worked behind the scenes to produce this show and are excited to share it with the RHS community. The new television equipment, purchased through the Duffield STEAM Initiative, was utilized during the shoot! New camera angles, HD video and seamless communication between audio and video!

Something to Sing About!

The RHS Rhapsodies, AcaBellas, and Maroon Men competed Saturday in the International Championship of High School A Cappella Mid-Atlantic Quarterfinal at Cherry Hill East HS. The Maroon Men were awarded 3rd Place, and Ben Harris received the Outstanding Arrangement Award for his arrangement of "Everybody" by the Backstreet Boys. The three groups did a fantastic job representing Ridgewood. They performed and handled themselves with such professionalism, and I am so proud of them! Attached are the links to their sets.
