In the Classroom
The American Sign Language 2 class is wrapping up their describing people unit with a game of Guess Who? Students had to play completely voice off and describe what the characters looked like. Students then played the game again but had to use real images of people for more of a challenge.
ASL 1 recently completed its 3rd Annual Handshape Art class, inspired by De'Via Art, which stands for Deaf View/Image Art. This art form allows Deaf individuals to express their experiences and challenges through various mediums, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and poetry. Using the work of artist Chuck Baird as inspiration, ASL 1 students created their own unique handshape art pieces.
Club Happenings
Last week, 140 Ridgewood High School DECA students traveled to Atlantic City to compete in the New Jersey state competition. Students participated in a variety of events, including impromptu role plays, prepared selling events, and both ten and twenty-page written papers.
Ridgewood students earned numerous mini awards for exceptional test scores and presentations. Impressively, 46 students advanced to the finals in their respective events, with 37 moving on to compete at the DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Florida.
Additionally, four of our finalists received exciting news: they are now eligible to compete at ICDC in Orlando. A standout achievement was Alexa Katsaros, who successfully campaigned and was elected as the state Vice President of Media for NJ DECA.
Ridgewood DECA also earned recognition for its various chapter campaigns, securing spots in the prestigious Leadership Academy. A total of 51 RHS students will be traveling to compete at the national competition in late April.
The GirlsWhoCode club members were recently inspired by the women of Google who shared
their technology journeys at a field trip last week to the Google headquarters in New York City.
Our RHS wrestlers all competed very tough in the NJSIAA Individual State Tournament this past weekend in Atlantic City.
A very big congratulations goes out to Kamila Castro who finished 5th this year making her the first 3-time state place winner in program history! Congratulations on a great career!
In addition, a very special congratulations goes out to Francesca Gusfa in becoming the 2025 100 lb. STATE CHAMPION!
She capped her dominating season by defeating Madison Rucci from Jackson Memorial in the finals (11-5). This made Francesca the second wrestler in Ridgewood High School history to win an individual state championship and the first one since Bob Whitaker in 1965!
Congratulations to all who competed this weekend!
The RHS hockey team had a thrilling season, making it to their first-ever state final. Along the way, they staged dramatic comebacks, including a stunning rally from a three-goal deficit against Ramapo and a victory over defending champions Northern Highlands. Led by brothers AJ and William LoSauro, who combined for 68 goals and 50 assists, the Maroons fell just short of the title but delivered unforgettable moments throughout the season.
