In the Classroom
Juice from Juice! The Power of Nature
With a fascination for atoms and molecules, Dr. Labowsky's Chemistry Honors students explored cutting-edge nanotechnology and built
nano-based solar cells using blackberry juice. They fabricated 18 working solar cells. The best solar cells produced 0.47 v and 8.2 mA
using a classroom overhead projector as a light source. The students were in awe of the power of clean energy from nature.
These solar cells were exhibited running calculators at Super Science last Saturday, March 2nd.

RHS Travels
Met Trip
The students of "Global Citizen" and "AP Art History" attended a field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art
on February 22nd. Over 70 students were
in attendance and some are pictured.
RHS Travels to Switzerland
RHS Switzerland spent six days this February exploring Switzerland! Their time was mostly spent in Luzern and Lausanne. Students toured CERN, visited the Olympic Museum, stopped by Albert Einstein’s apartment in Bern, visited Planetarium SIRIUS, and toured the Evian mineral water plant in France. The highlight of the trip was a thrilling stop to Mount Pilatus, the 6,994 ft tall mountain
via cable car with incredible views of the Alps!
Club Happenings
French Club
The RHS French Club hosted a fantastic gathering on February 21st featuring
an enjoyable game day accompanied by delightful snacks and beverages.
Please join the club and have fun with us!

The RHS French Club had a blast at the
2024 Montclair State University French Day!
Held on Wednesday, March 6th, Montclair State University invited
12 different high schools to participate in the event.
Each high school chose two workshops from the five offered, all of which were presented in French. Among them were Let's go to Togo, A taste of Tea in Morocco, The Olympic Fever, and France and Perfume. The club picked the Moroccan Tea and French Perfume workshops.
Following the workshops was the official Spring 2024 Competitive Event. This consisted of making a video in French related to different themes:
“Tableaux vivants” (geared toward advanced students) and “La Poésie en images” (geared toward beginning and intermediate students). "Oscar" trophies were presented for the best video in each category after a public screening. The club hopes to compete in this event next year.
All students had a great time on the trip—
making memories left and right.
We can't wait for next year's adventures!

Applied Engineering Club Met with Mentors
In the past two weeks, as part of the invention education and preparation for the next round of competition in March, all our
13 Applied Engineering Club teams took advantage of the mentoring sessions offered by NJDTEAM Tank Challenge. These sessions energized
and encouraged the teams to continue their invention journeys. Each session was held with Mr. Mariano Buttita, a NASA engineer, a judge,
and a STEAM Innovation Specialist of the New Jersey Department of Education.
12 teams are documenting their projects in engineering notebooks, as required by the Thomas Edison Pitch Contest in April.
Two AEC teams are entering new competitions. Trevor Phillips is leading Team Chempost to compete at the New Jersey Science Day Competition.
Carys Gallo is leading Team Estrogeneratos, the winners of the NJSTEAM Tank and Thomas Edison Pitch Contest, to the competition
for the National Academy of Inventors' Genspiration Prize.
All the team members will present their inventions at Super Science Saturday at RHS on March 2nd. We are grateful for the opportunity
and support to spread invention culture in the state of Thomas Edison, the greatest inventor of all!
