On Thursday, May 23rd, the Visual and Performing Arts Department held Celebration of the Arts where students were able to attend music, dance, and theater performances throughout the day, and interact with art exhibits and demonstrations, and other hands-on art activities.

Senior, Jaywu Jun, is our first RHS student to be placed in an internship as part of this year's pilot program. Jaywu has been placed with GroupSpot. RHS alumnus and GroupSpot CEO and Cofounder, Mark Kossick, has mentored Jaywu and provided a valuable learning experience for Jaywu before he graduates RHS and attends Cornell University. If you are a community member who would like to offer a similar experience for future RHS students, please contact Assistant Principal, Dave Bailey.

Over Memorial Day Weekend, the Ridgewood Quiz Bowl Team sent 6 students to compete at the High School National Championship Tournament(HSNCT) in Atlanta, Georgia. Attending for the first time in two years, the team was able to make it into playoffs and the top 20% of competing teams after 12 grueling rounds. This tournament marked the end of the season and served as a farewell to our graduating seniors. The Applied Engineering Club's 13 invention teams - ViriTec, Safe Waters, Infoband, ZeroPlast, STEAMPiRE, Eco Riders, ThermoVol, Road Runners, Shock Sleeve, Sight Shoes, Br-Ozone, DynaCharge and Soundtricity-have shown immense dedication and hard work, competing fiercely year-round (preliminary, regional, final) among 400+ teams at the NJSTEAM Tank Challenge. All RHS teams made it to Regional, and Team Safe Waters and Team ViriTec were among the 20 High school teams named finalists.
During the 6/3 Zoom ceremony, Team Viritec was announced as the 2024 third-place winner, a truly significant achievement. Their outstanding performance was rewarded with a $1000 cash prize for RHS, and recognition badges in various categories, including sustainability, Innovative Tech and design, the Human-Built Environment, Entrepreneurship, Creativity, and the Arts.
Team Safe Waters has also received recognition for its outstanding achievement in sustainability and innovative tech and design.
On 6/6, the Applied Engineering Club will conclude the productive year with a pizza party and a heartfelt tribute to honor their seniors’ exceptional leadership. As they embark on their journey to college to invent solutions for the problems in the community, country, and the world.
