Senior Margret Zhou has recently co-authored two peer-reviewed papers that have been accepted for publication in the prestigious journals ASME and IEEE, a significant recognition of her work. She is an outstanding student and the president of the Applied Engineering Club.
1. “Analysis of Contact Points on Guidewires in Neurointerventional Surgery Using U-Net-Based Shape Reconstruction.” This paper, published in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Journal, was also presented at the 2024 August International Design Engineering Technical Conferences & Computers and Information in Engineering Conference (IDETC-CIE). This work, a culmination of her year-long research to enhance a robotic system tailored for assisting surgeons during neuroendovascular interventions at Prof. Yong Shi’s mechanical engineering lab at Stevens Institute of Technology, is a testament to her dedication and expertise in the field.

2. “Experimental Investigation of Climate Change-Induced Soil Humidity Variations on Maize Stomatal Dynamic Behavior.” This paper was related to her contribution at the New Jersey Governor's School of Engineering and Technology (NJ GSET) the past summer (attached picture.) It was accepted for publication in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Journal. It will be presented at MIT's Undergraduate Research Technical Conference under the sustainability track in the fall.
In Mr. Wohner's Robotics 1 class, students have completed their first robot and have been operating them around the school delivering items to some lucky staff members. They are now working on making a robotic soccer game to test their creative problem solving and mechanical engineering skills.
On Wednesday, September 25, the RHS French club held its second meeting. Thanks to Amany Boussedjra, our new Culture Coodinator, club attendees learned about a popular French singer and songwriter, Edith Piaf. Many readers might think they have not heard of her, but did you watch the Olympics? "L'Hymne à l'amour", covered by Celine Dion, was a song of Piaf's! Despite being a singer, Amany's slideshow explained how the artist used her music, riches, and fame to help the French Jews during World War II.
If you want to learn more about French culture, history, and more, come to room 332 on Wednesdays (every 2 weeks) during lunch!

Ridgewood High School begins a long line of tradition with the inaugural ASL interpretation of the National Anthem at sporting events this year. Friday night's first home football game featured Briana Lutz signing the song alongside the Jamboree. We are excited to continue this throughout the school year at various sporting events to represent inclusion and help bridge the gap between the hearing and Deaf communities.
Last Friday, the RHS football program and RHS staff wore t-shirts to show support for fellow RHS student Johnny Jackson in his battle with Lymphoma.
