Around the Building

Some math faculty members get into the spirit with Earth Day themed t-shirts!

Happy Administrative Professional's Day to our dedicated and talented administrative professionals!

BRING YOUR CHILD TO WORK DAY

RHS celebrated Bring Your Child to Work Day this week.  In addition to experiencing a day in the life of their parents, staff provided various activities for the children to engage in.  Some of the offerings included math colors by number with Ms. Ingoglia, art and photography with Ms. Valenti, fingerprinting with Ms. Walters, a scavenger hunt with Ms. Maxwell, french games and storytime with Ms. Polk, jewelry making with Mr. DaSilva and recess with Mr. Nyhuis, Mr. Bailey and Mr. Freedman.  The day was a great success and we look forward to seeing them return next year!

In the Classroom

Wind Ensemble visits West Point

The RHS Wind Ensemble visited The US Military Academy at West Point for a day filled with a tour of their campus, the viewing of a rehearsal by the West Point Band in preparation for an upcoming concert, and a clinic with Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Coven, the band’s Commander and Conductor. The band also had the chance to play in their 4,500-seat auditorium!

RAHP 10

RAHP 10 students participated in a vaping case study at Bergen Community College.  The students followed a "patient's" case study from diagnosis to treatment and ultimately, death.  The students conducted an "autopsy" under the guidance of Dr. Tom Betsey at Bergen Community College.

Latin Classes

38 Latin students recently came back from a 9 day trip to Athens, Delphi, Sorrento, Pompeii and Rome. Highlights included Greek dancing night (yes, there's lots of video), a mozzarella-making demonstration followed by farm-to-table dinner in the hills of Sorrento, climbing the Athenian Acropolis, exploring the remnants of Pompeii and seeing the Sistine chapel.  We all ate far too much and slept too little, but it was an unforgettable experience.

Genetics & Biotechnology

Students in Mrs. Joseph's Genetics & Biotechnology class practiced their micropipetting skills and made art in the process. Samples of their work are shown here.

Choir and Orchestra

Students in the choir and orchestra programs held their spring concert recently at West Side Presbyterian Church.   At the conclusion of the program all the students were joined by members of the Wind Exemble to perform "Sogno Di Volare," a piece inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's writings of taking flight.  This was the first time large collaboration was possible since Covid times, which was especially sweet for the seniors and their families.  The piece begins at 2:00:30.

Club Happenings

New Players Company

Last month, The New Players production of Something Rotten! was a massive hit!  Selling out all five shows, audiences were wowed by the amazing talent.

Up next, the classic "OUR TOWN".

Green Club

Approximately 30 volunteers, including students, staff, and members of the Ridgewood Shade Tree Commission met on Stevens Field and helped to plant seventeen trees of species native to New Jersey. Stevens Field suffers from a lack of shade, and the streambank along the Hohokus Brook is prone to soil erosion. Increased vegetation, especially the addition of riparian trees, will help to promote water absorption and reduce flood susceptibility. Planting trees along the field aims to address all of these issues, while also helping to restore the Village's tree canopy that has suffered from significant tree removal.

The RHS Green Club participated in the Village Daffodil Festival & Earth Day Fair last weekend.  Students from the club shared their presentation on recycling and composting.

Project Interact

Project Interact along with Ridgewood Rotary held its April food drive this past Saturday.  Club members, Merve Tutar, Claire Marron and Katie Bisgrove helped sort the food collected from Stop and Shop.

Project Interact also volunteered at the Daffodil Festival and lucky members got to be daffodils!

RHS TEEN LEADS

RHS Teen Leads met with Detective Mormino to learn about fraud cases involving local senior citizens  and teenagers in Ridgewood. We appreciate all of Detective Mormino's insight and advice!

A CAPPELLA

RHS A Capella has been busy out in the community!  On Saturday, April 15th, the Maroon Men performed at the Christian Health's Volunteer Appreciation Event at the Brick House Restaurant in Wyckoff.  On Saturday, April 22nd, the AcaBellas helped kick off Ridgewood's baseball and softball season by performing the National Anthem for the Opening Day Ceremony at VETS Field.

Winter Guard

An incredible finish to the 2023 competitive season for the RHS Winter Guard. With a score of 83.6, the RHS Winter Guard finished with a silver medal and 2nd place at the MAIN (Mid-Atlantic Indoor Network) Championships at the RWJBarnabas Health Arena in Toms River, NJ! With their show, "Primary", the RHS Winter Guard was bumped up competitive performance classes a few weeks ago, which makes their 2nd place finish even more impressive.

Congrats to the RHS Winter Guard on their awesome 2023 season!

GIRLS LACROSSE

Ridgewood Girls Lacrosse Dedicates Game to Important Cause

RGL dedicated their April 13th Varsity game versus IHA to Morgan’s Message. Morgan’s Message strives to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health within the student-athlete community. The aim is to normalize dialogue on mental health and empower those who suffer in silence, as well as support students in need.

Both teams wore matching ribbons and t-shirts for their warmups showing support for this cause. There was a dedication and moment of silence before the game as attendees learned about Morgan. The Ridgewood Chapter of Morgan’s Message will be providing speakers and events in the coming months as well. Special thanks to organizers Ashley Auerbach and Caroline Williams, RHS Morgan's Message Ambassadors.
