RHS Alum Interview 

Students Dan Kearney and Andrew Loccke had the opportunity to interview RHS Alum Dan D’Uva. He is currently a radio sports announcer for the  NHL's Vegas Golden Knights.  Dan and Andrew are working on a Career Project and have a desire to go into the field of broadcasting. 


NJSTEAM Tank Challenge 2022 

Five teams from the Applied Engineering Club recently competed in the 2022 NJSTEAM Tank Challenge finals, with the RHS I.C.E Team placing first and also winning a $2,500 prize for RHS!  They invented a cooling blanket for trauma patients to reduce blood loss.

The STEAM Tank Challenge encourages students to apply science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) in response to issues facing the world today. In all, 450 teams participated at NJSTEAM Tank this year in elementary, middle, and high school divisions. A total of one hundred thirty teams made it to the final round. 



In addition to the I.C.E team’s first place, RHS teams received awards in the following categories:

Innovative use of Technology & Design Award: Care Bear, FireGone

Sustainability Award: H2O Recycle Flow, Chempost 

Societal, Social, and Emotional Impact Award: I.C.E.

Human Built Environment Award: Care Bear, FireGone, Chempost, H2O Recycle and Flow

Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Award:  I.C.E., H2O Recycle and Flow

Entrepreneurship Award: H2O Recycle and Flow

Subject Matter Expert Award: FireGone, I.C.E. H2O Recycle and Flow

Creativity & Exemplar Integration of the Arts Award: Care Bear, I.C.E and H2O Recycle anFlow

In the Classroom

Physics

Dr. Labowsky's Physics CP classes made an interactive hologram pyramid projector as their final activity to conclude the school year. Students worked with images from their Chromebooks and cell phones to marvel at the properties of light.

Friends of Music Scholarships 2022

The Ridgewood Friends of Music offers two scholarships annually to RHS seniors who will be majoring or minoring in music at an accredited college or university after graduation.  The Friends of Music Scholarship was awarded to Jiah Lee, who will be studying Violin Performance  at Vanderbilt University. The Joseph Genna Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Sanjna Rajagopalan, who will be studying Music and Engineering at Harvard University.  Eden Melamed was awarded the Honorable Mention Scholarship and will be studying Music Management at the University of Delaware. These students, along with their parents, were celebrated at a lunch on Friday, June 10th. Congratulations! 


National Spanish Examination

In March, students from the Spanish classes of Sra. Cuellar, Sra. Purriños, and Sra. Rotella participated in the National Spanish Exam offered by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish & Portuguese.  Approximately 150,000 students across the nation and 4,500 in New Jersey participated. Twenty students at Ridgewood High School achieved either Gold, Silver, or Bronze national status. Based on her outstanding score on the National Spanish Examination, Chelsea Byun was awarded the Junior Travel Study Abroad Scholarship and will be travelling to Puerto Rico this summer!

Club Happenings 

ARTBeat Live

On Saturday, June 11th, RHS students performed at ARTBeat Live at the Kasschau Memorial Bandshell. Organized by club leaders James Harkins, Rolan Bansil, and Sarah Jeong, ARTBeat Live provides a space for student bands, artists, and performers to share their passions with the community and showcase their talent. From rock to jazz and covers to originals, the night was filled with exceptional performances by student-formed rock bands, a cappella groups, and singer-songwriters. The Ridgewood High School Intermediate Certamen Team is the New Jersey State Champion! The four freshmen have competed in various competitions through the year as training for this incredible feat! Eitan Schneider served as team captain (pictured on the far right), leading the team of Daniel Khalitov, Connor Yu, and Misaka Baduge. The students won their championship at the 2022 State Convention of the New Jersey Junior Classical League in May. This stunning trophy will live at Ridgewood High School for the next school year!

Boys and Girls Track and Field 

Both Boys and Girls Track and Field teams finished the regular season undefeated! Both teams then went on to  win the League Championship AND the Bergen County Championship.   


Girls Flag Football 

In their inaugural season, the Girls Flag Football team headed into their last game of the regular season undefeated.


Boys Golf

The Boys Golf team are Bergen County Champs for the first time since 2007. 


Girls Varsity Lacrosse 

The Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team captured a 17th consecutive Bergen County Tournament title by defeating Northern Highlands.
