In the Classroom

NAARI @ RHS

Ridgewood High School is excited to host its second National African American Read-In (NAARI) to celebrate Black History Month. Established in 1990 by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English, the initiative has grown to include more than 6 million participants worldwide!  At RHS, NAARI will be celebrated in all ELA classes on Tuesday, February 15th. RPS’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, which is a cornerstone of the Strategic Plan, extends beyond one month. Diverse authors and stories are read all year long and participation in this event provides another opportunity for students and faculty to explore Black voices together.

DECA Ethical Leadership Challenge - 4th Place Finish

Hosted by DECA, in partnership with MBA Research and with support from the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative High School Program, members were challenged to develop a 60-second or less public service announcement (PSA) video describing the nature of ethics.  Students from the Advanced Marketing class and RHS DECA completed the challenge and entered three videos.  From there our chapter, the RHS students and staff, and RHS community members put their support behind our "Testing Situation" video to vote them into the top 10.  Once they achieved top 10 status, an external review board viewed the top 10 videos and graded them based upon the challenge rubric.  On February 1st we learned that our "Testing Situation" video had earned 4th place in the competition. Maya Azzopardi, Hannah Brodsky, and Annalise Hofman created the video and have been rewarded by DECA Inc and the Daniels Fund with a prize of $750.  Congratulations to Maya, Hannah, and Annalise on taking 4th place in this competition and thank you to all who voted to get them into the top 10.

DECA’s SBE Certification Program provides recognition for outstanding achievement by school-based enterprises and is a rigorous process designed to help DECA members demonstrate their classroom learning in a practical, learning laboratory, and then translate that into meaningful outcomes.  DECA members who contributed to the certification were Brian Auerbach, Snehanshn Chowdhury, and Tate Cunningham with the assistance of their DECA chapter advisors, Tim Murtha, Karen Mendez, and Paul Cronk.
