YUMMY CHICKEN
I’ve always loved chicken because it’s light meat. There are many ways to prepare it. My favourite recipe is called ‘Yummy Chicken’. It’s a bit difficult to cook, so I usually make it at weekends when I have enough time. Here is the recipe:
How to cook:
1. Cut every wing into three pieces.
2. Throw away the pieces that only have bones.
3. Put the other pieces into a bowl.
4. Add the honey and then the soy sauce to them.
5. Mix everything up.
6. Add a little salt and pepper to the meat and mix again.
7. Pour the oil into a frying pan and let it heat up a little.
8. Put the meat into the pan and fry everything for 15-20 minutes.

We use wh-questions to find out more information about some recent events.
Who has done this? — Sam has.
What have you made? — A pie.
Which blender has broken down? — This one.
Where has she gone? — To the cafe.
Why has she cooked it? — To make Bill happy.
CAREFUL!
We do NOT use when to ask questions in the Present Perfect because we are talking about an exact time in the past. Instead, we use the Past Simple.
When did he leave? — At 5 pm.
NOT When has he left? — At 5 pm.
WH-QUESTIONS IN THE PRESENT PERFECT - це спеціальні питання, які передбачають отримання додаткової інформації про події, які трапились нещодавно вно або результат яких важливий зараз.
Вони починаються з питального слова, яке показує, що саме цікавить того, хто питає (what, where, why...). Після нього йде допоміжне дієслово have y множині або has в однині, підмет та основне дієслово із закінченням -ed (якщо воно є правильним) або у третій формі (якщо воно є неправильним).
Наприклад:
What has she done? - She's broken a few glasses.
Where have you been? In the cafe.
Why have they left? - They're tired.
Ми НЕ вживаємо when у запитаннях із PRESENT PERFECT. Натомість починаємо з when питання в PAST SIMPLE, адже йдеться про конкретний час у минулому.
When did she roast it? (НЕправильно: When has she roasted it?)
Якщо питання стосується означення чи уточнення (what/which), після питального слова йде додаток.
Наприклад:
What/Which device have you used? - The mixer.
What/Which restaurant have they chosen? - This one.
Проте, якщо питання стосується підмета, то у реченні зберігається прямий порядок слів (після питального слова who/what одразу йде допоміжне дієслово в однині (has) та основне дієслово у відповідній формі).
Наприклад:
Who has made this mess? - Dylan has.
What has happened here? - The dog spilt the drink.

A WARM FISH SALAD
Britney: Hi, Stacey! What are you watching?
Stacey: Sh! I'm watching a video of how to make a warm fish salad. I want to make it for dinner, Britney.
Chef in the video: It's a very simple recipe, really. All you need is 3 tablespoons of olive oil, one lemon, a little salt and pepper, one salmon fillet, a few sprigs of fresh oregano and dill, eight tomatoes, two onions and vinegar.
Britney: Wait! That's a lot of ingredients! Do we have all that?
Stacey: We'll check it later. Let's listen to the recipe first.
Chef in the video: First of all, cut the oregano in small pieces. Then squeeze the lemon and mix its juice with the olive oil, salt and pepper. Pour this mixture over the salmon and add the oregano on top. Fry the fish in all the mixture in a pan or on a grill. After that, cut the tomatoes and onions into circles and put them in a bowl. Add some salt and pepper to them and then pour some olive oil and lemon juice over them. Mix it all well. When the salmon is ready, wait a few minutes for it to cool down a bit and then put it into the bowl with all those vegetables. Mix everything together again. Finally, add some dill to it and pour a little bit of vinegar. Voila! Enjoy!
Britney: Wow! That sounds like a lot of work!
Stacey: Yeah! Don't you want to make Mum happy when she comes home?
Britney: Yes, of course.
Stacey: Let's go, then!

Food Artist.
I wasn’t much of an eater when I was a child. That used to drive my mum crazy. ‘Don’t play with food!’ were the words I heard so many times. But that was the only thing I liked about lunch. While sitting at the table and looking at the plate in front of me (not wanting to eat), I imagined that the pieces of broccoli were a forest and the beans were the ground. The forest was nice to look at, but the broccoli was not nice to eat. Mum looked at me happily every time I took a fork. However, I almost never used it to put food into my mouth. I used it as a brush to do a painting from mashed potatoes. I loved art at school and I thought that food was the most perfect material for it.
Years later, I became a food artist. You must be wondering what that means. Well, a plate is a canvas for me. I still sometimes play with food instead of eating it, but now I do it professionally. People hire me to decorate their tables. I carve pumpkins, watermelons and other fruit and vegetables. I make sculptures using rice and chocolate, pasta, sweets, biscuits and other kinds of food. You can’t even imagine what a food artist can do with an orange!
Some people think I create food art for the rich only. But that is not true. I enjoy preparing food for my friends, too. I make dinner for my family every day and they love it. First, they take photos of the food and then they eat it. I use those photos to promote my work.

Politeness is the key to getting respect from others, improving your communication skills and becoming more sure of yourself. Many people expect you to have good manners in different places and situations, including at the table.
Proper eating includes the kind of food you have, the way of cooking it, the manner of serving it and the way of eating it.
In old times, people usually used their hands to eat everything until they invented kitchen items — forks, knives, spoons, plates, bowls, glasses, cups and so on. The way of cooking and serving meals has also become different. Today, we not only have a big table but also do not build a fi re to make food. Instead, there are many items of technology that help us with it — a cooker, a fridge, a blender, a toaster, etc.
Table manners vary from one country to another. For example, in Europe people use forks and knives, while in Asia chopsticks are the main device. There is a world standard to eat at the table. However, there are some countries, like India or Bangladesh, where people have a tradition to eat sitting on the floor. Even among families there can be differences in table manners. Some still eat food with their hands or use only a fork and no knife. Others always wash their hands before a meal, use all the kitchen utensils and even put a napkin on their knees or necks.
All in all, our world is different in many ways, even when it comes to eating and serving food. The way you behave at the table can show everyone what kind of person you are. What we all have in common is the wish to be respected. That is why it is always important to consider where and with whom you are having your meal.

WH-QUESTIONS IN THE PAST CONTINUOUS це спеціальні питання для отримання додаткової інформації про події, які трапились і тривали впродовж певного періоду в минулому.
Вони починаються з питального слова (what, where, when ...). Після нього йде допоміжне дієслово was/were, підмет та основне дієслово із закінченням -ing.
Наприклад:
What was Ann doing for an hour? - Making dinner.
Where was Ed walking his dog? - In the park.
Why were you mopping? - The floor was dirty.
• Якщо питання стосується означення чи уточнення (what/which), після питального слова йде додаток.
Наприклад:
Which room was Sue cleaning? - The bedroom.

WH-QUESTIONS IN THE PAST SIMPLE це спеціальні питання, які передбачають не підтвердження чи заперечення думки, а отримання додаткової інформації про події, які трапились у минулому.
Вони починаються з питального слова, яке показує, що саме цікавить того, хто питає (what, where, when ...). Після такого слова йде допоміжне дієслово did в усіх особах однини і множини, підмет та основне дієслово в початковій формі. Зверніть увагу на дієслово be у формі минулого часу (was в однині та were - у множині, яке виконує роль присудка.
Наприклад:
What did you do yesterday? - I walked my dog.
Why did she cry? - She failed the test.
When did they clean everything? - An hour ago.
What was hard for you? - The last task.
Why was he sad? - He lost his pet.
When were they here? - Ten minutes ago.
• Якщо питання стосується означення чи уточнення (what/which), після питального слова йде додаток.
Наприклад:
Which/What task did you do? - The first one.
Which/What dress did she choose? - This one.

The Present Simple Tense
1. The Present Simple Tense позначає регулярну, повторювану дію або постійний стан в теперішньому часі.
Цей час утворюють так: V (основа дієслова в 3-й особі однини) + -(e)s
2. Present Simple часто вживають з такими обставинами часу:
— every day / week / month / year; daily; weekly; on Sundays / Mondays etc; in the evening; in the morning; in the afternoon; in spring etc:
We gо to school every day.
— always; never; seldom; rarely; frequently; often; usually; sometimes (прислівники, що звичайно стоять перед дієсловом-присудком, але після дієслова be):
They often play tennis. He is never late.
Present Simple (Present Indefinite) – теперішній простий час англійської мови, який показує дію, яка відбувається регулярно, з певною періодичністю.
Стверджувальне речення в Present Simple (Present Indefinite) утворюється за допомогою підмета (хто? що?) та присудка (здебільшого він виражається смисловим дієсловом в першій формі).
I study French. – Я вчу французьку мову.
You speak English. – Ти розмовляєш англійською.
We play the violins. – Ми граємо на скрипках.
Cats like milk. – Коти люблять молоко.
Якщо підмет виражений іменником або займенником в третій особі однини, тоді до дієслова додається закінчення -s або -es.
She speaks English. – Вона розмовляє англійською.
He plays the violin. – Він грає на скрипці.
Simon's cat likes milk. – Кіт Саймона любить молоко.
Заперечне речення в Present Simple утворюється за допомогою допоміжного дієслова do з заперечною часткою not (do not), що ставиться після підмета (хто? що?). Після допоміжного дієслова do вживається смислове в формі інфінітиву без частки to.
I do not speak English. – Я не розмовляю англійською.
They do not play the violin. – Вони не грають на скрипках.
Дієслово do з підметом, вираженим третьою особою однини (he, she, it), вживається з закінченням -es у формі does. Після does смислове дієслово використовується у формі простого інфінітиву без частки to (перша форма дієслова).
She does not speak English. – Вона не розмовляє англійською.
He does not play the violin. – Він не грає на скрипці.
Питальне речення (загальне питання) в Present Simple утворюється за допомогою допоміжного дієслова do або does (якщо підмет стоїть в третій особі однини he, she, it), що стоїть перед підметом. Після підмета йде смислове дієслово в першій формі.
Do you speak English? – Ти розмовляєш англійською?
Do they play the guitars? – Вони грають на гітарах?
Do cats like fish? – Коти люблять рибу?
Does he speak English? – Він розмовляє англійською?
Does she play the violin? – Вона грає на скрипці?
Does Simon's cat like to swim? – Кіт Саймона любить плавати?
The Present Continuous Tense
1. The Present Continuous Tense утворюють так: be + V-ing
2. Present Continuous позначає :
— безперервну дію або дію, що відбувається зараз:
Our planet is orbiting the Sun. (Наша планета обертається навколо Сонця.)
We are working now / at this moment / at the moment. (Ми працюємо зараз / у цю мить.)
— тимчасову дію, що відбувається в теперішньому часі:
Не is writing a new book now / nowadays. (Він пише нову книгу зараз.)
— дію, яка здається безперервною (здебільшого тому, що є набридливою):
Не is always eating something. (Він завжди щось їсть.)
They are talking all the time. (Вони весь час розмовляють.)
Примітка. Додавання закінчення -ing призводить до змін в основі дієслів, які закінчуються на:
1) наголошений голосний + приголосний:
stop – stopping; begin – beginning
2) голосний + I: travel – travelling
3) -ie: lie – lying; die – dying
4) -e: come – coming; take – taking

Розділові питання (Tag-questions)
Ці питання складаються з двох частин — розповідного речення та короткого питання, що відокремлюється комою.
Друга частина (коротке питання) складається з допоміжного дієслова, що відповідає часу присудка першої частини, та особового займенника, що відповідає її підмету.
Причому, якщо перша частина речення є стверджувальною, то друга — заперечною, і навпаки:
You speak English, don’t you? — Yes, I do. / No, I don’t.
Ви розмовляєте англійською, чи не так?
Не isn’t your brother, is he? — Yes, he is. / No, he isn’t.
Він не ваш брат, чи не так?
Заперечна форма допоміжного дієслова, що утворює другу частину розділового питання, завжди має скорочену форму.
Але оскільки am not не має скороченої форми, то для першої особи однини дієслова be використовується форма aren’t:
I’m your friend, aren’t I? — Я твій друг, хіба ні?
TAG QUESTIONS це розділові питання, які вживаємо для уточнення або підтвердження інформації. Речення з такими питаннями складаються з двох частин, які відділяємо комою: перша розповідна, друга питальна.
У PRESENT SIMPLE утворюємо розділові питання з допоміжним дієсловом DO/DOES та відповідною особою.
Наприклад:
You go to the Drama Club, don't you? Yes, I do.
Ben doesn't do aerobics, does he? - No, he doesn't.
У PRESENT CONTINUOUS утворюємо такі питання з допоміжним дієсловом ВЕ та відповідною особою.
Наприклад:
You are painting, aren't you? Yes, I am.
Pan is watching TV, isn't she? - No, she isn't.
ПРОТЕ:
I am dancing, aren't I?
(HEправильно: I am dancing, am not ?) - Yes, you are.
Якщо перша частина стверджувальна, то друга заперечна, і навпаки.
Наприклад:
You enjoy that, don't you? - Yes, I do.
You don't cook, do you? No, I don't.
Tim is talking, isn't he? - Yes, he is.

Special Days at School.
Except for such well-known holidays as Christmas, New Year or Independence Day, there are also those days which are dedicated to school.
First, Knowledge Day on 1st September when a new school year starts. The headteacher, all the teachers and students gather around in the school hall or outside. The headteacher welcomes everyone and usually makes a speech.
Second, Teachers’ Day — an international holiday which underlines the importance of teachers and their hard work in the world. Many students give flowers to their teachers on that day.
Third, Graduation Day — the day when a school year ends, usually in June. Most students are happy because it means that summer holidays begin and they are free from their studies for a while. On the other hand, there are graduates for whom this school year is the last one. They can feel a bit sad because they may never see their classmates and teachers again.
Finally, School’s Anniversary — the date when your school was founded. Some students call it ‘My School’s Birthday’. The headteacher often makes a speech. There may be a presentation on the school’s history or even a big festival.
There are many other holidays that students and their teachers may have. The ways of celebrating these days often vary from country to country, from one school to another because all of them have their own traditions. However, the special spirit of celebration is what they all have in common.

Emma: Why do you look so sad? What's wrong?
Bruce: Nothing. It's just the summer holidays are over and school starts again. I hate school, I hate getting up early!
Emma: Cheer up! Every September we get new books, new notebooks. We usually get some new clothes.
Bruce: Who cares?
Emma: You will also see all your friends again every day. You won't be bored anymore.
Bruce: I'm never bored on a holiday. I hang out with my friends, I play video games, I watch TV, I go to the cinema, I visit my grandparents. I don't like school, especially Maths. I just don't understand it. And then my sister always teases me. She says I'm lazy. She's top of the class in Math and she doesn't study a lot. It's not fair! That's why I hate school!
Emma: Come on! You don't mean that! Even If you hate some school subjects like Maths, there are surely some subject that you like. Besides we have two new school subjects this school year and two new teachers.
Bruce: Oh, yeah… More subjects, more tests. Great! Every time we have a test I can't sleep and I get a stomachache.
Emma: You shouldn't worry so much about tests. When you worry you cannot concentrate and then you get bad results.
Bruce: It's easy for you to say that. You have all “As” at school.
Emma: I have a suggestion. Why don't we study together next time we have a test?
