The Present Perfect Tense
1. The Present Perfect Tense (теперішній перфектний час) утворюють за такою формулою: have / has + V3 (III форма дієслова).
2. Present Perfect
We have already done the work and can go home.
We have not done the work yet.
Have you done the work yet?
У цьому випадку можуть уживатися прислівники before / in my life / so far / never / ever etc, які стоять після дієслова have / has:
I have never been to Spain.
This writer has written many interesting books.
Have you ever heard this song?
We have had three lessons today.
г) якщо обставиною часу є прислівник just (щойно), який стоїть після дієслова have / has, або recently / lately (нещодавно):
Не has just left. I’ve met him recently
Past Simple: I did it just now.
Запам’ятайте: Present Perfect ніколи не вживають з обставиною часу, яка вказує на конкретний час або проміжок часу в минулому (in 1988 / at 5 o’clock / yesterday / a week ago etc).
The Past Simple Tense
1. The Past Simple Tense
4. Past Simple
а) дію, що відбулася в минулому (обставина часу в такому реченні — це, як правило, певний час (період) або завершений відтинок часу в минулому: in 1964; yesterday; last week / month / year; at 5 o’clock etc):
She came home at 3 o’clock.
They finished school last year.
Не lived in Lviv when he was young.
We swam in the river every day in summer.
She stood up, came up to the window and opened it
The Present Perfect Continuous Tense
Present Perfect Continuous у стверджувальних реченнях утворюється за допомогою допоміжних дієслів have been чи has been та дієслова з закінченням -ing. Has використовується тільки з третьою особою однини (he, she, it), have – з усіма іншими.
He has been playing football for 2 hours. –
I have been waiting here for 2 hours! –
Допоміжні дієслова has або have можуть зливатися з часткою not та утворювати hasn’t або haven’t відповідно.
It has not been snowing here since 2005.
They haven’t been waiting for him for so long since last summer. –
Have you been jogging? You are looking so exhausted! –
Has she been studying English for so long? She started doing it in 2010!
for (2 hours, 3 years і т.д.) - протягом, на протязі (2 годин, 3 років і т.д.)
James has been teaching at the university since June. –
They have been talking for the last hour. –
Why has Nancy not been taking her medicine for the last three days? –

I'm an only child. I don't think I was spoiled, maybe I was. I don't consider myself to be selfish but I'm probably not very good at seeing things from other people's point of view. Maybe that's because I'm not very imaginative. I'm quite responsible and organized though. So, probably most of what the psychologist says is true for me.
Um, other people in my family. Well, my wife is a youngest child. I think she's quite affectionate. That's the most hard-working person I know and I'd say she's charming but she's not manipulative.
My dad is an oldest child and I think it's true that he's much more responsible than his brother and sister. And I know they think he was always quite bossy. Actually they still think he is.

“A man and his friends”
Once a man built a house. The house was nice but very small. He invited his friends to visit him. He wanted them to see his house. His friends came and looked at the house. But no one said anything good about it.
"The front of the house is not nice enough," said one.
"The house is small and there are not enough windows in it," said another.
"Look at these windows!" cried the third. "They are so ugly!"
"Look at the roof!" said the fourth. "It will probably fall down when it snows."
"And the doors! They are not big enough."
"Have you ever seen such rooms?" asked another. "They are too small even for one man."
The man listened to his friends in silence. At last he said, "It may be true that my house is small. But it is also true that I haven't enough good friends who can live with me even in such a small house."

I used to have a friend called Rosa. We were together at secondary school. When we were 16 she moved because of her father's job, but we kept in touch. We used to write long letters to each other, email didn't exist then. I went to stay with her a couple of times, too. We lost touch after university. I'd love to see her again. We used to be really good friends.
I used to hate a couple of teachers at school, but I suppose the one I hated the most was my French teacher. He was really horrible. I don't think he liked children or even teaching. He used to be rude to us and he didn't explain things well. I failed French. It was the only subject I ever failed at school.
I used to play a lot of squash, but I’ve recently started playing tennis and now I much prefer it. The problem with squash is that it's pretty hard and aggressive. The great thing about tennis is that it's outdoors and I play doubles with three friends. It's less competitive and more fun. The only problem is you can't play when it rains.

· I used to get up at 7 a.m. when I was a student —
· When I was a child, I used to live in France —
· He used to smoke, but he’s given up — Він раніше курив, але покинув.
· They used to spend every summer in the country house —
· There used to be a theatre but now there is a museum —
· Sam used to be very skinny when he was young —
· I did not use to learn English —
· My sister did not use to read fairy tales when she was a child —
· Did you use to ride a bike? —
· Did she use to play the guitar? —
Відмінності «used to» від «to be used to»/«to get used to»
Конструкцію «used to» важливо не сплутати з «to be used to» і «to get used to».
1. To be used to
· I am used to working on weekends —
· Do you think we will be used to doing anything on vacation? —
2. To get used to
· Dmytro is getting used to working on his own — Дмитро звикає працювати один.
· My parents got used to living on the first floor —
· She will have to get used to working every day, without weekends —

What affects our personality?
In his book about the family's influence on a personality the British psychologist Tom Hughes tells that our position in the family is the strongest factor that influences our personality.
On his opinion, the oldest children get maximum attention from their parents, and the result is that they're usually quite self-confident people.
They make good leaders. For example, the famous Prime Minister Winston Churchill was a firstborn child. The oldest children are often ambitious. They're more likely to go to university than their brothers or sisters. They often get the top jobs, too. They are also responsible people, because they often have to look after their younger brothers or sisters.
The downside of this is that sometimes this means that when they're older they worry a lot about things. They can also be quite bossy and even aggressive, especially when they don't get what they want.
The middle children are usually independent and competitive. It's because they have to fight with their brothers and sisters for their parents' attention. And they're usually sociable, they like being with people, probably because they have always had other children to play with. However, on the negative side, the middle children are often jealous of their brothers and sisters and they can be moody.
If a child is the youngest in the family, he or she will probably be very charming, affectionate and quite relaxed. On the other hand, the youngest children are often quite lazy. This is because they always have their older brothers and sisters to help them. And they can be quite manipulative - they use their charm to get what they want.
They only children in the family don't have to share with anyone, so they're often spoilt by their parents and their grandparents. As a result, they can be quite selfish. They think of themselves more than of other people. On the positive side, the only children are usually very organized and responsible, and they can be very imaginative, too.
