Mike: OK, Mr Perfect. Let’s solve one mystery! How come you got an F in the History test if you are so clever and hardworking?
Pete: Yes, that’s a real mystery that even the best detective in the world couldn’t solve.

The Present Continuous Tense
Теперішній тривалий час Present Continuous
Present Continuous вживається для вираження дій, що відбуваються або не відбуваються в точно зазначений період у теперішньому часі, тобто дій, які відбуваються в момент мовлення, в даний момент.
Ознаками цього часу є такі слова і словосполучення: now (зараз), at this moment (у цей момент), while (у той час як, поки), still (все ще).
1. The Present Continuous Tense утворюється так:
to be (am, is, are) + дієслово +ing.
We are watching TV now. - Ми зараз дивимося телевізор.
He is playing football now. - Він грає у футбол зараз.
Is he playing football now?- Він грає у футбол зараз?
He is not playing football now. Він не грає у футбол зараз.
2. The Present Continuous Tense позначає:
- безперервну дію або дію, що відбувається в даний момент:
Our planet is orbiting the Sun. (Наша планета обертається навколо Сонця.)
We are working now/ at this moment / at the moment. (Ми працюємо зараз / в даний момент.)
- тимчасову дію, що відбувається в теперішньому часі:
He is writing a new book now/nowadays. (Він пише нову книгу зараз.)
- дію, яка здається безперервною (здебільшого тому, що є набридливою):
He is always / constantly eating something. (Він завжди/постійно щось їсть.)
They are talking all the time. (Вони весь час розмовляють.
He is always showing pictures of his grandsons. - Він постійно (тільки і робить що) показує фотографії своїх онуків (це всім набридло).
Додавання суфікса -ing призводить до змін в основі дієслів, які закінчуються на:
1) приголосну + наголошену голосну + приголосну:
stop - stopping; begin - beginning
2) голосну + I: travel - travelling
3) -ie: lie - lying; die - dying
4) голосну + приголосну + e: come-coming; take – taking
Ці дієслова не вживаються у групі часів Continuous:
to feel (почуватися),
to look (виглядати),
to love (любити),
to like (подобатися),
to recognize (визнавати, упізнавати),
to know (знати),
to have (мати) - за винятком словосполучень to have breakfast, to have dinner, to have lunch,
to hear (чути),
to want (хотіти),
to believe (вірити),
to understand (розуміти),
to mean (мати на увазі, означати),
to live (жити) та інші.
Замість часу Present Continuous з цими дієсловами потрібно вживати час Present Simple.

Twins are close to each other, but that doesn’t mean they are always best friends. They enjoy playing with other kids just like any other children.

COMPARATIVES and SUPERLATIVES це вищий і найвищий ступені порівняння прикметників.
Односкладові прикметники:
1. Вищий ступінь більшості прикметників утворюємо додаванням закінчення -еr до звичайної форми прикметника, а найвищий за допомогою закінчення -est.
Наприклад: small - smaller - smallest.
2. Якщо прикметник закінчується на е, додаємо -r/-st.
Наприклад: nіce - nicer - nicest.
3. Якщо прикметник закінчується на голосну і приголосну букви, подвоюємо приголосну та додаємо -er/-est.
Наприклад: big - bigger - biggest.
Двоскладові та багатоскладові прикметники:
1. Вищий та найвищий ступені більшості двоскладових і всіх багатоскладових прикметників утворюємо за допомогою слів more/less та most/least відповідно.
Наприклад:
careful - more/less careful - most/least careful;
comfortable - more/less comfortable - most/least comfortable.
2. Вищий та найвищий ступені окремих двоскладових прикметників можемо утворити двома способами.
Наприклад:
simple - simpler - simplest
АБО
simple - more/less simple - most/least simple.
3. Якщо двоскладовий прикметник закінчується на -у, заміняємо у на і та додаємо -er/-est.
Наприклад: easy - easier - easiest.
Зазвичай ми вживаємо артикль the перед формою найвищого ступеня, якщо відразу за прикметником іменник.
Наприклад:
the nicest jeans, the simplest game, the least comfortable jumper.
Винятки зі ступенювання прикметників:
good - better - best
bad - worse – worst

The Present Simple Tense
1. Present Simple (Present Indefinite) – теперішній простий час англійської мови, який показує дію, яка відбувається регулярно, з певною періодичністю.
Цей час утворюють так: V (основа дієслова в 3-й особі однини) + -(e)s
2. Present Simple часто вживають з такими обставинами часу:
— every day / week / month / year; daily; weekly; on Sundays / Mondays etc; in the evening; in the morning; in the afternoon; in spring:
We gо to school every day.
— always; never; seldom; rarely; frequently; often; usually; sometimes (прислівники, що звичайно стоять перед дієсловом-присудком, але після дієслова be):
They often play tennis. He is never late.
The affirmative form
I go to school every day.
You speak English very well.
We often work in our school garden after classes.
They usually get up early in the morning.
He always does his lessons in the evening.
She goes to the cinema on Sundays.
The negative form
I do not (don't) learn French.
You do not (don't) know the new words.
We do not (don't) read German books.
She does not (doesn't) play in the yard before lessons.

The interrogative form
Do you speak English? Yes, I do. / No, I don't.

Does she watch TV every day? - Yes, she does. / No, she doesn't.
