Another busy week at St Michael's and there have been NFER tests taking place throughout the week in years 1 to 6, the results of which will come home on reports with your child on Monday in advance of the Parents Evenings.
We also had some four legged visitors, including Richard (puppy) and Loki (hamster) in Year 1 linking to their science topic 'Animals including Humans' which they are exploring this half term.
Year 5 had a great trip to the Science Museum yesterday and this morning we were all thoroughly entertained with the wonderful Celebration of Learning assembly led by Year 2. The acting, singing and dancing were superb. Thank you to the children for all their efforts, the staff for all their hard work and you the parents for their costumes, helping them learn their lines and for coming to support them. It was so much fun hearing all about the lives of so many different and exciting explorers from the past!
As I write there is the familiar annual sea of red around the school in honour of Red Nose Day as part of our Lent Appeal 2024. If you haven't already done so please do pay the £3 donation on Parentmail in support of all our Lent charities this year. We are so grateful for all your help and support.
In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35
Next week are the last two parent consultations afternoons with Inclusion along with parents evenings on Wednesday and Thursday. This is also a time when you will be able to explore your child's books and classroom. We look forward to seeing you then.
Lucky Year 1 are out all day at the Tower of London on Wednesday and on Thursday Year 3 are taking part in a Stone Age Workshop.
Friday is Maths Day all day and the children will be dressing up in sums and numbers as they see fit!
The same day, Year 5 pupils are cooking pizza in the Hall and Year 6 are out all day at the AFC Wimbledon. What a busy week ahead!
In the meantime, warmest wishes to our families who began Ramadan on the 10th March. We are delighted that members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) in association with Fasl Mosque are coming in to share this important occasion for many of our families with our pupils. This continues to develop our pupil's cultural capital, promoting diversity and inclusion within our school community. Pupils will have the opportunity to engage in an interactive assembly where they can ask questions and deepen their understanding of how and why this important part of the Islamic calendar is observed.
Best wishes for the weekend

Lent Appeal 2024: 'Step In To Help....'
The theme of this year's Lent Appeal is 'Step In To Help....' and this year the charities we are supporting are:
Wandsworth Foodbank
Red Tribe Masaai Academy (Our Global Partnership School)
Red Nose Comic Relief and
Magic Breakfast (as nominated by our Pupil Voice)
Each week we will have a particular focus and encourage the children to think about how they can step in to help others and share their skills and what they have.
We have asked for a £3 donation per child, payable via Parentmail.
Please do add your payment if you haven't already.
As of today we have only received a third of the payments for our Lent Appeal via Parentmail.
Thank you for your generosity so far.

Our PTA:
We are delighted to welcome the arrival of our new 'Ink Bin'. Please do bring in your home printer ink cartridges (the inkjet type - we cannot accept toner cartridges) for recycling - it is not only easier than a trip to Smuggler's Way, it will also raise money for the PTA to continue supporting the school. This is a win-win for us - we do the right thing for the environment and we raise money without taking it from your pockets. The Ink Bin will be available at the main school door daily and we are hoping it will prove to be an ongoing successful initiative.
I was lucky enough today to see the Y2 assembly, having watched Y3 perform a few weeks ago, and it really has been a treat. The work that the children and staff have put into their learning and sharing that knowledge is so wonderful to see. The PTA wanted to be at the assemblies to have the chance to speak directly to parents in their year groups - we want everyone to know that their contribution is welcome and needed for the PTA to continue successfully raising funds to help our children and the staff who support them. As we approach the summer season, we will soon be asking for volunteers to lead on certain aspects of the fete - a particular stall, overseeing the side attractions, ensuring that all the tables and benches make it to the field and back again in the same condition. Please do consider what you can do to play your part throughout - the fete is not just four hours on a Saturday, we need the help before and after to make it all work.
If you have any questions or suggestions please do let us know pta@stmichaels.wandsworth.sch.uk.
There were 16 pupils marked as late arriving to school this week
Family Pets Visit To Year 1:
On Tuesday the Year 1s had two special visitors - Richard and Loki!
We have been learning about animals in science and how to take care of a pet.
We had to do some research to help us make a pamphlet about caring for a pet.
Our pet experts helped answer our questions.
We got to stroke Loki and see her do all kinds of cool tricks. We also watch Richard the hamster crawl all over his owner's arms and shoulders.
Did you know that a hamster can only have one piece of fruit a week?!
If you need help on how to look after a pet dog or hamster you can ask a Year 1!

Chamber Choir and Sing For Joy: Informal Concert
This term I have had the pleasure of exploring a range of song with pupils from Years 3 to 6. I have been delighted with the efforts of the pupils involved, who have been harmonising, singing in rounds and thoroughly enjoyed our time singing for joy!
We showed our parents how we warm up and performed the songs we had prepared. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
Next Tuesday we are looking forward to singing the song we prepared specifically for the Easter Service at church.

Year 5 Trip to the Science Museum:
Year 5's excursion to the Science Museum proved to be an enlightening venture, especially in unveiling the mysteries of Earth and space. The learners were treated to a visual feast of the planets, bringing our celestial neighbours within touching distance, metaphorically speaking.
The were able to see the wonderful astronauts, rockets, and, to the amusement of our young scientist, a space nappty! However, it was the rare opportunity to witness a fragment of moon rock that captured the imagination of all.
A heartfelt thank you is extended to the marvellous parents who volunteered, contributing their time to enrich our experience, and to the students, whose exemplary behaviour made the day all the more enjoyable.

Year 2 Celebration of Learning: 'Explorers'
The children in 2J and 2W were delighted to share their learning about famous explorers and expeditions during their morning assembly with the school and their loved ones.
They took us on a trip back in time, teaching us about the discoveries of Christopher Columbus, Neil Armstrong's accomplishments, Emilia Earhart's bravery and the strength of Felicity Ashton. The children sang their hearts out and danced their socks off - treating the audience to a glimpse of the breakdancing moves they have learned with Louise this term. The children did themselves and their teachers proud, speaking with confidence and sharing their wealth of knowledge with joy and excitement.
Who knows what is next for Year 2 and their continuous learning journey?

WOW Competition:
Well done to everyone for your wonderful contributions.
Here are the 3 submissions that have been sent forward to Living Streets for the WOW badge competition.
We had so many entries and it was lovely to see the thought and effort that had gone into them. We look forward to seeing if any of the St Michael’s submissions are successful! Thank you again!

The Baby Chicks Have Gone Back Home:
Nursery have had some hen eggs that they were able to watch hatch inside an incubator.
This week the children have really enjoyed looking after the chicks as they have started to grow bigger, flap their wings and jump about.
The children also built a 'chicken run' and took turns to gently hold the chicks, as well as feeding them treats like little pieces of broccoli. They were able to learn lots about the life cycle of a hen.

AELTC Nature Weekend:
Saturday 23rd and 24th March
10am - 1pm and 2pm - 4pm
The Nature Weekend will take place by the Clubhouse on the former Wimbledon Park Golf Course, not far from the entrance to Wimbledon Park on Home Park Road.
Together with the London Wildlife Trust the event will include exploring the power of water and how important water is for wildlife and nature to thrive.
"With frog spawning season focused around the month of March, we are celebrating amphibians and their environment in several different ways; by crafting your own fish, going pond-dipping and hearing the story about the Toad and the Frog.
Explorers can join our Nature Safari walks to look for creatures and wildlife, you can learn about how sustainable drainage works, and there will also be the opportunity to willow weave your own dragonfly and bird feeder.
This event is free to attend and you do not need to book in advance. However, to gauge attendance numbers, it would helpful if you registered your interest by following the link below."
To mark the end of a fantastic term we will be holding a light hearted and fun house talent show for the children on the last day of term .
Children from Years 1 to 6 will split into their houses and children that would like to perform will perform to their House. Our House Captains will then pick some acts to represent their House and perform to the whole school. We are asking the children to perform in groups where possible to allow more children to take part.
We want this to be a fun distraction and children can practice during break and lunchtimes. The children will be given more information on how to sign up over the next couple of weeks but can start coming up with ideas. The event will give children across year groups to come together in a supportive environment either as a performer or spectator.

Biggest Ever Football Session:
I wanted to say a huge thank you to all the families that joined us for the Biggest Ever Football which is part of the #LetGirlsPlay campaign from the FA.
It was a cold Friday afternoon last week and all the children and families showed such enthusiasm. It was great to see so many girls playing football. A special shout out to our older children from the girls football club for showing such great leadership and supporting me with the event. The occasion also coincided with International Women's Day so I want to personally thank all the Women in our community for the special job you do nurturing our children.
