Friday 9th June 2023

Create, Equip, Partner

Dear Parents and Carers

We come to the end of another week, our first of the last half term of the academic year.  And already we have hit the ground running!

Class photos took place on Wednesday and the pictures will be ready to order in the next couple of weeks.  Order details are explained below.

Yesterday we held a talk for Year 5 parents on the transition process to Secondary School, which I hope was helpful.  A link to the presentation is below.

Lucky Year 3 spent the day at Danebury Hillfort yesterday - a report and pictures are further down this web update.

And today it's Year 5's turn for an outing to Hampton Court Palace.  We look forward to hearing more about it when they return.

Mufti Day 1 today marks the beginning of the countdown to our ever popular Summer Fete and payment and contribution details are outlined in the PTA box just below this message.

Next Week:

The main excitement for next week is when we wave off Year 6 on their School Journey to Osmington Bay, Dorset.   We will so look forward to regular updates from their fun and games throughout the week!  And in the meantime... drumroll... their Leavers' hoodies have arrived!

On Monday morning there will be a demonstration assembly led by Sensei James to showcase his karate lessons.

And on Tuesday Year 3 have a special Art Workshop taking place in school all afternoon.

Finally, Year 2 have a lovely trip planned to Battesea Park all day on Friday.

Best wishes for the weekend ahead

AMG, Headteacher

Courtesy Parking:

A neighbour has reported that a car parked across her driveway for 10-15 minutes during drop off this morning and prevented her from getting to her work on time.

PLEASE SHOW COURTESY TO OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY WHEN PARKING CLOSE TO SCHOOL

Attendance:

Our target for the year is:  97%

Our attendance for the year to date is:  96.7%

This week our attendance was: 97.6

Well done 2W and Red Class for 100% attendance this week

This week there are 15 pupils who have had 10% or more absence in this school year to date, falling under the Government's 94% attendance guidance.

Punctuality:

We have been asked by our Governors to monitor punctuality at St Michael's on a monthly basis from now on.

This week there were 11 late marks recorded which related to 10 pupils

Punctuality is a life skill and we ask ALL families to ensure their children are in on time.  Being late for school impacts and disrupts the whole class and shows discourtesy to the teaching staff.

Thank you for your support in ensuring your child is 'in line, on time, every time'.

Our PTA:

The weather is heating up and Mufti Day 1 is complete so it means only one thing – The Enchanted Kingdom is (nearly) ready to go!

Our much-anticipated Summer Fete will be taking place on Saturday 24th June 12-4. This is a day for the whole community - entry is free for school families (but don’t forget your tokens and inflatable wristbands).

For others, it's just £1 for adults and 50p for children at the gate so please spread the word.

As ever, we can't make this event a success without your help - we need all hands on deck, with two shifts available and if every child has an adult do a shift we should be covered.

Aunties, uncles, grandparents - all are welcome to lend a hand. No DBS check needed – it is such fun to be involved so sign up!

Don't forget to grab your raffle tickets! They were included in the book bags this week. Return them by the 21st of June for a chance to win exciting prizes, maybe even buy more on the day!

A massive thanks to everyone involved in making this event possible. Your hard work is truly appreciated!

We were so impressed with the quality of artwork produced by Year 6 students for our fete logo design competition. You could even say we were enchanted....

With such talent on offer it really is hard to select one entry as the winner, but we are delighted to show off the winning entry created by Sophia and Zara.

We think it is beautifully presented and neatly ties in the school logo while also setting the imagination off on wonderful journeys with magical creatures - well done!

The winners will be presented with their certificates by some of the artists within the parent body.

Year 3 Trip to Danebury Hillfort:

As a part of our History learning of the Iron Age this half term, we went on a very special trip to Danebury Iron Age Hillfort. The weather was lovely and pupils enjoyed a little picnic there at lunchtime.

The pupils took a tour of the hillfort and learnt about life in the Iron Age and the importance of the hillfort. The children will also learn about the Celtic lifestyle by playing trading and attacking/defending games to help them understand how people survived during those times.

As all parents know, they are able to make an appointment with the class teacher and/or SENCO to discuss concerns they have about their child's learning and development.

In addition to this The Inclusion Team would like to offer parents quick, drop-in opportunities where they can ask Mrs Harris (Deputy Headteacher, SENCo and Mental Health Lead) questions they have about their child.

At the moment these sessions will be run on a first come first served basis, so there may be a queue.  Please come and wait in the School Office.

Kind regards

Reflection and Prayer:

This week's Gospel Value:

Service:

Next Week's Gospel Value Is:

Endurance:

Almighty God, who has given me the wish to do right and helped me to do your service, strengthen me to persevere.

Give me the endurance to serve you, and perform my duties.

When I am weary in well-doing, remind me that the ways of sin are pathways to destruction.

Do not let me, in a moment of weakness, lose all that I have gained.

In the darkness of discouragement, give me the light of your presence.

Help me to endure.

You have said that whoever endures to the end, shall be saved.

Do not let me fall from your grace.

Amen.

Lord, grant me your strength so I might endure the tests that are waiting for me.

Remind me there is no mountain I cannot   climb, no river that I cannot swim.

I look to the hills, you give me hope.

I look to the valley, you show me strength.

I look to the solid wall; you show me a way out.

For every test, I see your grace.

For every challenge, I see your mercy.

For every bump in the road, I see your salvation.

Through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior I pray.

Amen.

.... and finally...  MILO, the SAS Bear, had a parachute lesson with Mrs Grant's son Tariq over half term.

We then gave him another little 'flight' from the MUGA climbing frame!
