End of May Half Term Review 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we reach the halfway point in our summer term, it’s hard to believe just how much we’ve packed into these past few weeks. Despite being the shorter half of the term, it has been filled with energy, learning, and joyful experiences.

From exciting trips and inspiring visitors to the focus and determination shown during the KS1 and KS2 SATs, we’ve seen our children rise to the challenges and embrace opportunities with enthusiasm. Today’s wonderful celebration of learning from Reception was a joyful reminder of how much progress our youngest pupils have made—and how much joy they bring to our school community.

In our collective worship, we’ve begun exploring the Fruit of the Spirit—starting with patience. This week, we reflected on the story of Joseph in prison, considering how his patience, kindness, and trust in God helped him endure difficult times. It’s been a beautiful way to anchor our thoughts as we move towards the end of this half term.

Looking ahead, the first week back promises to be just as exciting. Year 6 will be off on their school journey to Windmill Hill in East Sussex; Year 4 will be taking their multiplication tables check; Year 1 will complete their phonics screening; Year 3 will step into the past dressed as Romans; and Year 5 will explore history at Hampton Court Palace on Friday which is the first of our mufti days. It’s going to be a busy and vibrant start to the second half of term!

I’m very much looking forward to visiting our Year 6s on their school journey next Wednesday and will be joining in with the raft building session! I’m planning to get a bit wet and hopefully not fall in!

Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Mr Thornton-Flowers and the PTA fete team are hard at work preparing for one of our favourite events of the year. They are busy with programme writing, finding sponsors and advertisers, and coordinating all the behind-the-scenes details that make our summer fete such a special day for the whole school community. As we pause for a well-earned break, I leave you with a powerful verse from my Bible calendar this week:

As we look ahead to the final weeks of the year—with all the excitement, transitions and new challenges they bring—may we be reminded that we are not alone, and that God equips us with exactly what we need: strength, love, and calm perseverance.

As we approach the final half-term break of the academic year, we would like to provide a brief update on this term's activities and, importantly, our Right Royal Summer Fete!

This Half Term's Highlights:

• The Year 1 and Year 2 cake sales raised over £700 for PTA funds. Thank you to the representatives for coordinating these and extending sales to the church field.

• Mrs Harris, the Chair of the Board of Governors, and the PTA Chair held a productive meeting regarding fundraising targets. Further information will be shared at the final PTA meeting of the academic year (2 July 2025).

• Thank you to Carmen Cox and her team for another successful pre-loved uniform sale. If you missed it, there will be another opportunity at the Summer Fete.

Summer Fete Details:

We invite you to join us on the church field from 12 pm to 4 pm on Saturday, 21 June, for our Right Royal Summer Fete! A detailed newsletter will follow, but here are the key points:

• Mufti Days, Fete Tokens, and Wristbands: Friday 6, 13, and 20 June are Mufti Days. Please donate via this link. You can also pre-order fete tokens and inflatable wristbands. Pre-orders close at 3 pm on 18 June.

• Performance Schedule: Tracey Minster and the booking team have secured high-quality acts for the fete. The schedule is available on the PTA website.

• Raffle: Ed Bushell is finalising the raffle prizes. Tickets will be available for purchase via Ticket Tailor after half term.

• Donations: Many stalls rely on donations such as tombola prizes, books, toys, clothes, homemade crafts, and cakes. Donation details are available here.

Please bring picnic blankets and camping chairs to relax and enjoy the fete.

PTA Treasurer Opportunity

FINALLY... we are seeking a new treasurer to shadow the outstanding Paul Warrington as we prepare for our Right Royal Summer Fete. This key committee role focuses on:

• Regular PTA account management and bookkeeping.

• Preparing financial reports for the PTA Annual General Meeting.

• Submitting reports to the Charity Commission.

• Managing the token stall and SumUp machines at the Summer Fete.

St George's Park SATs Celebrations!

It has been another great half term of sport with the focus on striking and fielding. We focused on the transferable skills of striking and fielding then focused on cricket, finishing with a house competition. The children have performed really well in the glorious but sometimes challenging weather. Thank you for sending the children equipped by applying sunscreen in the morning and sending them with sun hats. They will need them for next term as we start our athletics unit and prepare for sport week and sports day. The children will be working within their houses to choose the medal events they will take part in and we will ensure that all children take part in one medal event. This does not however guarantee them a medal but we do want to ensure that there is a competitive element and the children learn to win and lose gracefully. We do consistently remind the children to strive to achieve their personal best and focus on improving and enjoying the sport rather than focusing on winning. We want to develop resilient learners.

Reception Sports Day and picnic is on Monday 30th June - More details to follow.

KS1 and KS2 Sports week starts on Monday 7th July and concludes with Sports Day and Picnic on Friday 11th July - More details to follow.

Year 5 AFC Wimbledon tournament at the Cherry Red Records Stadium

We were privileged to be invited to play at AFC Wimbledon's stadium at Plough Lane on Monday 19th May. Teams were able to send squads of 10 with 5 girls and 5 boys playing 7-a-side and had to have at least 3 girls or 3 boys on the pitch to make it a very inclusive event. Our team did really well and won all their games in the group stage with Coach Mrs Jenning organising the team. They lost in the semi final to a strong team and came 3rd overall which was a great achievement and great experience for the children to play in a football stadium. Thank you to AFC Wimbledon for organising.

Year 4 Netball at Southfields

Our year 4 girls played a round robin against a couple of local private schools organised by the Wandsworth School Games. The girls played exceptionally well showing great collaboration and determination to get themselves into the games. We played each team twice and in the second round of games there was a clear progression in their play. Well done team.
