In Year 4, history has been a very popular subject and, following on from the Romans, we have had a great time learning about the Saxons and Vikings and, just last week, putting all our knowledge of the events of 1066 to good use as we spent a whole day dressed as Saxons and Normans, examining artefacts, learning to play traditional board games, discovering typical foods and reenacting the Battle of Hastings itself on the MUGA, complete with helmets, shields and swords (sticks). Our Big Writes are testament to the innovation of the children as we have tacked new grammatical concepts and been inspired by a range of absorbing class reading texts. This year, twice weekly Whole Class Reading sessions have been a big success and all the children can tell you how they use their VIPERS skills for comprehension. We have also enjoyed lots of practical investigations in Science lessons.
