Dear Parents and Carers

The week began with a special Well-Being Assembly led by our Well-Being Ambassadors. (see below)

Reception children had a visit from the Fire Brigade on Tuesday! The children were very excited to sit in the engine and see a gas mask - and hear the VERY LOUD siren!

This week we celebrated Harvest and I want to thank you all for your incredible generosity in donating to the Wandsworth Food Bank this week.

And thank you to Lou and Megan at the church for leading a very entertaining Harvest service on Wednesday. (I'm only glad that Miss Bostock took one for the team in drinking the strange concoction they produced as part of the worship!)

The Black History Month Workshops have been running this week and there have been some very interesting discussions and activities relating to this. A full review of these will feature in next week's End of Half Term Newsletter.

Yesterday morning we held a Phonics workshop for Reception parents which was extremely well attended and I do hope you found it useful. A link to the presentation is further down this newsletter.

And in the afternoon we invited Upper Phase parents in for a Q & A Coffee Afternoon which again, we hope was helpful to those who joined us.

Today Year 6 have enjoyed a WW2 Day in line with their current topic.

Next Week:

We have Roman Day on Tuesday for Year 4, Reception children are walking up to Southfields midweek and we are continuing with the Black History Workshops on Monday and Thursday.

Also on Thursday is the much anticipated Year 6 Assembly, continuing with their World War 2 theme, and we look forward to welcoming their parents in to watch this.

In the afternoon we have invited our Middle Phase parents in for a Q & A Coffee Afternoon - and then we break up later that day! I can't believe how fast this half term has gone already....

Well-Being Launch Assembly:

On Monday morning our wonderful Wellbeing Ambassadors took to the floor for their first task - an assembly on World Wellbeing Day.

The children had spent time with Mrs Harris in the weeks prior to the event discussing and preparing Google Slides - see attached.

These slides were prepared by the children following their research and they were all very brave and spoke during the assembly.

At the end the children took some questions from the audience and we were very proud of how confident they were when delivering their well informed answers.

They continue to promote the child friendly wellbeing policy to the children and will meet again after half term.

Mini St Mikes Nursery:

Friday 4^th Nov before pick up from 2.30pm

Friday 2^nd December before pick up from 2.30pm – with tea and cake

Monday 5th Dec from drop off from until 9.30 – with coffee and pastries

As all parents know, they are able to make an appointment with the class teacher and/or SENCO to discuss concerns they have about their child's learning and development.

In addition to this The Inclusion Team would like to offer parents quick, drop-in opportunities where they can ask Mrs Harris (Deputy Headteacher, SENCo and Mental Health Lead) questions they have about their child.

These sessions will start on Tuesday 13th September 2022 at 8:30-9am and run each week. If you wish to attend please come to reception after drop off.

At the moment these sessions will be run on a first come first served basis, so there may be a queue.

If necessary we may move to a sign up or booking system but we wanted to see how many parents needed these sessions and how well they are attended.

St Michael's Netball Team:

We are super proud of the netball team this week, who were invited to play alongside the Wandsworth prep schools at Emanuel School.

The team came top of their table and made it to the semi-final, fighting for the gold cup!

We hope everyone has had a lovely penultimate week of this half term. Hard to believe next week is the final week already!

There is lots happening in PTA land this week and next so please grab your diaries and phones and get comfortable!

We are delighted to be welcoming 126 people to the Autumn Social tomorrow night and hope everyone has a fantastic time. Thank you for joining us and we can’t wait to see the Mum and Dad dance moves! Special thanks to our Year 2 Reps for organising such a fabulous event.

Key things to remember:-

• Sausages need to be pre-ordered by Monday 31st Oct at midday. This is the first Monday of next term so do it now so you don’t forget!

• Friends and family are welcome (don’t need to be attending our school) but tickets need to be bought by a St Michaels family so do spread the word.

• Babies and toddlers aged 0-2yrs are free

• We are not selling glowsticks this year but you are welcome to bring your own

• There will be no bonfire but an amazing display of fireworks is being prepared for your enjoyment

Thanks to our Year 4 Reps and the fireworks team led by Chris Pillings and Ruwan Madurapperuma who are organising this event.

We are also looking for more people to host D&G signs advertising our sale of Christmas trees. D&G donate £20 to the PTA for each sign they place (up to 100) and it is the easiest way the PTA make money all year! If you had a sign for our summer fete and are happy to have another, you don’t need to do anything.

However, if you are new to our school or not had a sign in the past and are able to have one this November, please email the pta with your name and address (pta@stmichaels.wandsworth.sch.uk). If you have had one for the summer fete but have moved or are now unable to host a sign, please also let the PTA know. We need to send the list to D&G next week so please let us know asap if you are willing to be added to the list.

Finally, next Thursday (20^th) is the PTA AGM. Please join us on zoom at 7:30pm as we review the past year and the one ahead. This meeting is very important as we decide on the budget for the year and also elect our new PTA Committee members. Zoom details will be circulated mid next week. We realise it is the day we break for half term but we hope you can join us and hear all about our fabulous PTA!
