Last week began with an extensive INSET day when we covered expectations for the term as well as discussing a possible new staff approach called "Talk For Teaching".
We welcomed the children back on Wednesday with a special assembly to launch the Fruits of The Spirits Worship themes for the term. More on this in the Reflection section further down this update.
Unfortunately a number of families didn't return from their holiday break in time for the first week back so please be reminded that unless they are exceptional (pre-agreed) circumstances these will be noted on their records as an unauthorised absence. See below for more on our procedures relating to pupil absences.
This week we have been settling back into learning routines and focusing on Pupil Progress and Moderations for Years 2, 5 and 6.
We had the school nurses in on Tuesday to do heights and weights with Reception and Year 6 pupils and as usual, the children were all very sensible while this was taking place. They will be returning for any children who were absent that day - date to be advised.
Next Week:
We will be focusing on Pupil Progress for Middle Phase.
Also, some Year 6 pupils will be taking part in their Level 2 Cycle Training in the afternoons from Tuesday to Friday.
We are looking forward to the Year 4 Assembly on Thursday entitled "Sticky Knowledge", which is a celebration of all they have learned in this school year so far.
And then finally on Friday, the same year group are very lucky to be going on a trip to the Science Museum to focus on the theme of: "It Takes Guts".
Best wishes for the weekend ahead.

Attendance Matters:
Please remember always to let the office know BY 9AM each day if your child is not going to be in school. You can also do this by clicking on the Parent Mail App to record any absence.
We need a full reason each time for our records please.
Every morning the office staff are having to chase up missing children:
If a message hasn't been received by 9am the office will call the child's parents
If no response from them the office will then call the other nomianted contacts in their records to ascertain why the child is absent.
If no one can be reached we will then visit the family residence to check
If we cannot find a child at their main residence we will contact the police/MASH (Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub)
Thank you for your support.
Attendance:
Our target for the year is: 97%
Our attendance for the year to date is: 96.6%
This week our attendance was 98%
with two classes achieving 100%:
Well done 1CR and 6B
Our PTA:
We hope everyone is coping well with the soggy start to 2023 and thinking of the fun times ahead for this Spring term.
Today we held our termly second-hand uniform sale and a big THANK YOU to everyone who helped, donated and purchased. It is appreciated both from a fundraising basis and an environmental benefit, as well as giving a cost saving to all.
If anyone is interested in taking charge of the 2nd hand uniform sales please do come forward – your PTA needs you as well as the mountain of uniform that need new homes!
Brie Doyle has heroically come forward to do Cauliflower cards next year ( THANK YOU) .
For general items you have at home some parents have set up a Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1328161154608168/ for St Mikes families to recycle/reuse/sell - it might be worth a look too.
We hope all the children are practicing their dance moves for what will be, as ever, a fun and funky School Disco onSaturday 4th Feb. Y6 parents are working hard on the organisation so keep an eye out for the ticket sales and the… volunteer sign-up sheet – you too can show your moves (not a requirement don’t worry).
Here are our wonderful Playground Champions from 6B, 6S, 5H and 5S, ready to help make lunch time lots of fun for children in the younger year groups.
As all parents know, they are able to make an appointment with the class teacher and/or SENCO to discuss concerns they have about their child's learning and development.
In addition to this The Inclusion Team would like to offer parents quick, drop-in opportunities where they can ask Mrs Harris (Deputy Headteacher, SENCo and Mental Health Lead) questions they have about their child.
These sessions will start on Tuesday 13th September 2022 at 8:30-9am and run each week. If you wish to attend please come to reception after drop off.
At the moment these sessions will be run on a first come first served basis, so there may be a queue.
If necessary we may move to a sign up or booking system but we wanted to see how many parents needed these sessions and how well they are attended.
Kind regards
The Inclusion Team

Our Middle Phase Reflection Area:
The Fruits of the Spirit:
But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
- Psalm 1:2-3
