Welcome to the Summer Term! I can hardly believe how fast this academic year is going and we have lots of great activities and events to look forward to as the weather gets better and better...
We started the new term with a visit from Zoolab to our Reception and Nursery pupils - see more below.
Friendship was our key Christian Value this week and we explored this through a variety of Bible readings which included the story of Ruth. At the start of the week in our whole school assembly children learnt what it was to be a true and faithful 'all weather' friend.
Today has been particularly special as we have welcomed Mrs Fahim who, with the help of her son and many of our Muslim pupils, has led a beautiful whole school assembly on Eid.
Thank you so much to Mrs Fahim and all who shared their faith with all of us - and what a wonderful spectacle to see so many fabulous Eid celebration costumes around the school all day today.
Every child and member of staff also received a delicious home made vegetable samosa so a huge thank you goes to all the chefs who kindly prepared and delivered nearly 500 vegetable and chicken options this morning!
Please also note this lovely invitation extended by Fazl Mosque for their Eid Al Fitr celebration party tomorrow. All welcome.
And a big thank you also to the Year 3 reps and their helpers who have done an amazing job coordinating the Sport-A-Thon event today. We look forward to hearing how much money has been raised.
Next week:
We will be exploring the Christian value of peace through the verse from John 14: 27-31 where he is talking to and reassuring the disciples:
“Peace I leave with you. My peace I give you . . . Do not let your hearts be troubled.”
He is telling them that they will find true peace, not a peace based on their situation and we can share in that same peace when we believe in Jesus!
The Eco Warriors have hit the ground running this term, having planted some summer seeds out last week and on Monday they are leading some Earth Day projects - see below for further information.
On Tuesday there will be an in-school Year 5 Junior Traffic Watch workshop and on Thursday there will be an in-school workshop for Year 2 focusing on Mary Seacole, in line with their current topic.
There is also another of the ever popular Sitting Volleyball events on Thursday afternoon involving some of the older children.
Finally, we are ever grateful to our caring community and the acts of kindness so often shown to us; last evening a St Michael's school backpack was delivered back to us by a member of the public who found it on the bus! Owner and bag now happily reunited!
Best wishes for the weekend

Headteacher
Message From Our Parent Governors:
Dear Parents and Carers, Staff and wider school community,
We hope that you had a good Easter holiday with some downtime wherever that might have been possible! We also send Eid Mubarak greetings to those who celebrated the festival on 11th April, as we also look ahead to the celebration of Passover starting next week.
The Board of Governors would like to take this opportunity to send our heartfelt congratulations to Mrs Harris as she begins her first full term as Headteacher; our prayers and good wishes go out to her for this busy term, which will also include the recruitment of a new Deputy Headteacher.
For the staff and the children, the summer term is in many ways the highlight of the year as the school calendar fills up with school trips, sports days, various celebrations of learning, (and also of course SATs and other assessments). In addition, we also have the wonderful school fete to look forward to, which the PTA are busy organising - do please respond to requests for help and support from the PTA as the June fete draws closer.
We are delighted to be able to celebrate the School’s achievement in being listed number 118 in The Sunday Times Parent Power league table of the best primary schools in England, coming in the top 150 out of 16,783 primary schools in the country. These rankings are based on the percentage of pupils who achieved their expected grade in the 2023 SATs tests. Well done to all pupils and staff who made this possible. We wish all Year 6 pupils the very best for this year’s SATs tests taking place in May, and for pupils across other years taking assessments this term.
Finally, we would just like to highlight a message that went out from Miss Bostock and Mrs Jennings at the end of March for regular parent/ carer volunteers to help with tasks that will release teachers and teaching assistants to spend more precious time in the classroom helping pupils. If you feel you could lend a hand with displays, preparation of worksheets and work for pupils, or sticking in of homework and other tasks, please do complete the volunteer form that was sent via ParentMail on 28th March, or contact the School Office. All help will be much appreciated (whether a regular commitment or a one-off contribution - just let the office know what you can manage so they can co-ordinate the roster of volunteers). It will make a real difference to the resources available in the school to support pupils. If you are able to volunteer and haven’t yet completed a DBS check, do please contact the office to arrange this now.
We wish all pupils, teachers and all staff at St Michael’s a blessed and happy summer term.
“I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2

Parent Governors, on behalf of the Board of Governors
It's been a busy start to the Summer term and the PTA are delighted to have introduced our first Sports-a-Thon!
A big thank you to Year 3 for organising and to the senior leadership team and school staff for facilitating the event. We hope that the children have enjoyed the challenges and we would love to get any feedback you have, constructive and critical, on the change from the Spring Social to this more active event. We will be reviewing how things went and will let you know if it is something we will seek to retain. In the meantime, please do try to make sponsorship payments by Friday 26th so we can do the numbers. Please also return sponsorship forms with your name and confirmation that gift aid can be applied to your donation to ensure we maximise the benefits.
Please do join us next Tuesday 23rd at 7pm for the first PTA meeting of the summer term https://us06web.zoom.us/j/81909488620 - there will be lots to discuss as we get into gear for this busiest of times for the PTA and school.
There were 19 late marks this week involving 17 pupils
ZooLab Visit:
We had a visit from some very important visitors on Monday, who helped us to understand more about our new topic work, looking after living creatures and plants.
We enjoyed listening to and discussing some new facts about some different creatures too! We met a giant snail called Pierre. Did you know that a giant snail has over 14.000 teeth?
We also met Eddie the corn snake, who smells through her tongue! But I think our favourite creature had to be August the spider, who sleeps for 24 hours a day!
Lily, the Zoolab expert, said how quiet and sensible we all were, which was lucky because August has tiny super sensitive hairs all over her body, which she uses to sense movement and noise!

Earth Day: Monday 22nd May
The Eco warriors have been hard at work preparing for the upcoming Earth day.
They have promoted the day to their classes by giving specific advice on how they can show respect and protect the wonderful earth.
Over their break and lunchtimes they will be inviting the children to make 'Earth Day' art work to further support and promote the day.
As a team they have also planted some new special Coronation seeds in the school garden - new flower beds to mark Earth Day at St Michaels.
Excellent work from the Green Team!

Recognising the importance of instilling healthy financial habits from a young age, the scheme not only prepares them to manage their finances effectively but also contributes to their mental health and well-being.
Understanding how to navigate financial pressures in today's world is crucial, and the resources help lay the foundation for students to develop confidence and resilience in handling financial challenges.
The Maths faculty and wellbeing leads look forward to sharing these resources with our school community.

Reflection and Prayers :
Next Week's Gospel Value is:
Peace:
St. Francis of Assisi: Make me an instrument of your peace:
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.
