Dear Parents and Carers

This week has very much focused on Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the extraordinary scenes that have seen her casket travel from Scotland to London for her Lying in State.

As you know, we have been holding daily reflections at the end of each school day, as well as a number of focused worships and activities to commemorate her amazing life.

And can you tell where I have been in the middle of the night? (Clue is in the picture!)

On a separate note, we held a special Judaism Workshop for Years 1 - 3 on Thursday and today the lucky Year 6 children have spent the day at the Imperial War Museum. One of my favourite places to visit!

Next Week:

Monday is of course a public holiday and I for one will be glued to the television all day, as well as taking part in a minute's silence at 8pm on Sunday evening.

On Tuesday morning we have a Year 6 School Journey meeting and we are hoping as many parents as possible from the year group will attend.

Finally, on Friday we have Jeans for Genes day - more on this great cause below.

Parking Places Plea:

If any kind parent has space in their driveways for any of our members of staff struggling to park in the mornings we would be very grateful.

Please be reminded that birthday treats, such as cupcakes or sweets or lollipops, each need to be indivudally wrapped for distribution at the end of the school day .

Walking To and From School Unaccompanied:

For Years 5 and 6 only

Please ensure you complete the online form LINK and return to the school office so that we have a record of any permissions given.

If your child is walking to school unaccompanied please be extra vigilant in advising the office by 9am if they are going to be absent from school. This is a vital safeguarding requirement.

As all parents know, they are able to make an appointment with the class teacher and/or SENCO to discuss concerns they have about their child's learning and development.

In addition to this The Inclusion Team would like to offer parents quick, drop-in opportunities where they can ask Mrs Harris (Deputy Headteacher, SENCo and Mental Health Lead) questions they have about their child.

These sessions will start on Tuesday 13th September 2022 at 8:30-9am and run each week. If you wish to attend please come to reception after drop off.

At the moment these sessions will be run on a first come first served basis, so there may be a queue.

If necessary we may move to a sign up or booking system but we wanted to see how many parents needed these sessions and how well they are attended.

The children made a great start to the academic year last week where we had team building lessons with activities that focused on collaboration and problem solving. We discussed the expectations for PE and how to have a growth mindset. Years 1 and 2 used the blindfolds and had to guide each other to learn about communication.

This week we have started our football lessons focusing on dribbling and ball mastery with KS2 children also working on 1vs1's and how to use their dribbling skills to beat a defender whilst also learning about defensive positioning.

Miss Corless has started her floor gymnastics lessons with the children, looking at shapes and balances in preparation for creating floor routines

House Captains and PE ambassadors

We had our first House morning as well and all the Year 6 children who went for the role gave such an amazing account of themselves, delivering well thought out speeches with great confidence. They can all be really proud of themselves, whether they were voted in or not. They have already started their roles supporting clubs and I have already had really good feedback about their leadership. They will also get some training delivered by Nick Miller from the Wandsworth School Games.

Clubs

Clubs are underway and are a great opportunity for children to build on their skills from PE and develop in other sports. We want all children to access sports clubs by the end of the year so please speak to me if there are any problems accessing clubs.

Safety equipment

Please can children wear shinpads for football activities and next term children will need to wear shinpads and a gum shield for hockey. If children attend hockey club they will also need to wear a shinpads and a gum shield.

We hope everyone has had a good second week of term and like us, the holidays are already feeling a long time ago!!

Thank you to everyone who helped sort and sell our second hand uniform today. We are fortunate to receive a steady flow of donations but it does take time to sort into the correct sizes so we really appreciate everyone who was able to help. We hope your cupboards are now stocked and ready to go when the cooler weather arrives.

Next Friday we have our first cake sale of the year. Thank you to our year 3's who are supplying the treats and we look forward to lots of happy faces come this time next week.

Also next week, we will be releasing details of the Autumn social which is on Saturday 15th October (get your babysitter booked!) and will be sending the cauliflower card kits home in book bags. Only 99 days until Christmas Day....!! Finally, the first Bad Dads (and carers) catch up for this year is next Thursday from 8pm at the Park Tavern.

But the most important news of the week is that we are delighted to let you know we have one volunteer to take on the PTA Chair position. We need a second so please get in touch if you are interested. We need YOU!!
