It has been so nice to see the sun out this week and we have all enjoyed chances to catch up on our vitamin D.
On Wednesday KS2 took part in a special assembly led by the UK Parliamentary team. Also Year 4 had a fabulous time at the Science Museum in line with their Science topic: 'It Takes Guts'.
Well done to the Year 5 and 6 girls who took part in a special event at AFC Wimbledon yesterday and are through to the finals on the 9th February.
Next Week:
We will be offering our love and support to the Year 6 pupils as they go through their mock SATS next week - please do encourage the children to remain calm and not to worry about them at all, we only ask that they do their best.
"For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory" Thessalonians 2:11-12
On Tuesday evening the staff are taking part in some INSET training after the school day has ended. (Please note that most clubs will be unaffected and the only clubs NOT running on this day are Collage Club and Homework Club. These have not been charged for at the booking stage.)
Some of the Middle Phase children are taking part in a New Age Kurling Tournament at Southfields Academy on Thursday afternoon and then later that day the netball team is taking part in a contest at Honeywell.
The third session of the Early Years reading workshops is being led by Tara from Learn to Love To Read on Friday.
We are also all looking forward to the Year 4 Celebration of Learning on Friday when we will learn all about what they have covered in history this academic year so far. So stand by for some fun facts on the Romans, Anglo Saxons and Vikings! Year 4 Parents are invited to go up to the classrooms after this event to look at the children's books and enjoy their work.
Safer Internet Day is coming up soon and this seemed good time to remind you all of the importance of watching over our young people whilst they are online. We all know that children aren't always searching and looking at the things you ask or expect them to be or that your filtering systems allow. We have recently become aware that children are speaking to people online who they do not know and that puts them at a huge risk as there are many dangers on the internet. Please take this opportunity to speak to and ensure your child is aware of the risks involved in speaking to people they do not know and how to use the internet in a safe and secure manner.
Finally, have a great time at the Disco tomorrow! Mrs Jennings, Miss Bostock, Mr Harris and I look forward to witnessing some great moves!
Have a greatweekend filled with kindness.

Acting Headteacher
School Streets:
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Viewfield Road is NOT TRAFFIC FREE despite the signage so please continue to be vigilant and mindful.
Our target for the year is: 97%
Our attendance for the year to date is: 96.6%
This week our attendance was: 96.9%
We are still having families taking time off to go on family holidays despite our regular requests that this only happens outside of term time. Attendance is so important to a child's education and it is clear in the statistics that this can have long term impact on their wellbeing.
Our PTA:
We are so looking forward to hosting the Winter Disco tomorrow and thanks to everyone who will be helping out on the day.
A few reminders for everyone, please:
- Arrive on time to drop-off and pick-up
- Bring children's coats home with you after dropping off
- Make sure you have signed your child in - all children (including Y6) need to be dropped off and collected by an appropriate person eg adult, older sibling
- Make sure we know who will be picking up
- When collecting, make sure we have signed your child out
- Do not send any food in with your child
- Do not embarrass your child by showing off your dance moves while you are waiting to drop-off or collect
If our DBS volunteers can arrive 15 minutes before their disco that would be appreciated. Remember no hot drinks or hip flasks please.
After the disco, we will have a few quiet weeks so you can expect fewer messages from us. Enjoy the respite!
Have a great weekend,
Sheila, Louise and the PTA Committee

KS2 had a visitor from the Houses of Parliament speak to them about the different roles of the House of Commons and House of Lords.
Through School Council, KS2 put forward a variety of questions to our guest speaker including how the Houses of Parliament have changed over time and what challenges an MP may face.
It was particularly exciting to hear our year 6 School Council member ask what qualifications a person may need to become an MP!

Year 4 Trip To The Science Museum:
On Wednesday, Year 4 enjoyed a wonderful trip to the Science Museum to enhance our learning about the human digestive system.
They were beautifully behaved on the journey, despite some additional walking, and we received some lovely compliments from members of the public on the tube!
Whilst at the museum, the children were enthralled (and disgusted) by the 'It takes guts' workshop, where we were taken on an interactive journey through the digestive system, complete with seeing inside a real human body!
We then toured some of the exhibits and the children particularly enjoyed trialling various STEM careers in the 'Engineers and Careers' section, which had some fun activities to do.
A huge thank you to the parent helpers and staff members who made the trip possible, as well as the children for being so engaged and well-behaved.

PE News:
AFC Wimbledon Girls Tournament
This week nine of our year 6 girls attended the AFC Wimbledon Tournament for girls.
We went with the main target of having fun and showing everything we have done in training and PE.
The girls showed amazing collaboration with positive communication throughout the tournament leading to two wins and a draw which meant we qualified to the finals on the 9th February top of our group. Thank you to John Whitehouse, our co-chair of governors for supporting the trip and coming to cheer on our girls and see the amazing progress they have made.
Our boys team will be playing their finals on Tuesday 30th January 2024 so please keep both teams in your prayers for a successful and fun time at the finals.
Some of our year 3 and 4 children will also be taking part in a New Age Kurling tournament on Thursday 1st February 2024 so please also pray for a successful and fun tournament for them too.
Thank you to all the parents for your support for PE and sport this year so far.
Now that the new arrangements have been in place for a couple of weeks some of the KS2 children have given their feedback on the various options available to everyone at lunch time. These range from various team sports with the three Sport and Health Academy coaches, as well as unstructured play in the outdoor gym and table tennis areas, sensory garden and climbing frame. The outdoor classroom is also allocated as a 'Quiet Zone' for those children that prefer to read a book or take part in their own quieter activities.
More Pupil Feedback:
"I like the new playground organisation because we get to do active stuff like dodgeball and football. I also like the red and green card in the lunch hall that tells us when we have to stay seated or go outside"
"As I am a playground champion, I like seeing lots of children smiling and happy during lunchtimes. I like playing sports like dodgeball and basketball. I am excited about using the cricket nets that are being put up today."
"I like it because we get to do lots of fun and active activities. I really like dodgeball and benchball."
"I like that we get to do the benchball and dodgeball because we have fun playing against other teams. We get to work together as a team to try and win in different sports."
"I like the quiet area because I can read and we can play board games as well"

The Fruit of the Spirit:
Next Week's Gospel Value is Patience:
Job knew that God had a plan, he was willing to accept what God allowed in his life and wait patiently for God to reveal the reasons why this was happening to him.
In the end God rewarded Job's patience, faith and trust with twice as much as he had in the beginning.
(Job 42:10).
...and finally.... the new cricket nets are proving very popular...
