This half term is flying by and we are at the end of week 4 already!
On Monday Year 4 had a visit from a dentist - who also happens to be Mrs Stewart's aunt! They discussed the importance of oral health and hygiene, the function of different teeth and also saw some (clean) extracted teeth. The children received important messages but also had fun!
On Wednesday we held our Q & A (virtual) Coffee Afternoon for Lower Phase parents and I do hope you found this helpful. We look forward to hosting the same for the Middle & Upper Phase next Wednesday. Do please send in any questions you may have in advance.
Today the Reception and Year 6 pupils have been weighed and measured and all the children were so sensible throughout the process to help make it all run smoothly.
Next Week:
Lucky Year 1 are off to the London Transport Museum on Monday. We look forward to hearing about all the different vehicles they will have seen!
We are also looking forward to the Year 4 Assembly next Thursday on "Healthy Eating" and I know they have been rehearsing hard for this already. We have extended an invitation to two guests per Year 4 family and please wear a mask while you are in the hall.
On Friday, the whole school is taking part in a special "Maths NSPCC Day" and I can't wait to see all the different 'number costumes' on display - but please don't spend money buying expensive outfits. Home made creativity is perfect, for example a football shirt with a number on it if you haven't time to create something.
Finally, we are very proud of our recent pupil survey results on behaviour and attitudes - more on this further down this update.
Best wishes for the weekend.

Pupil Voice:
How Our Pupils Make A Difference
The video clip link below gives a pupil voice overview of how they feel they make a difference in our school with their ideas, views and actions.
It was created as a result of discussions held with pupils as part of pupil voice and the school wanting to create a long standing celebration which we could share with the wider school community.
At the request of our Lunchtime Supervisors we are asking that pupils do not bring large balls into school for the time being.
Instead we are putting out our own school footballs, netballs and basketballs in the main playground for the children to use because the playground gets very busy - and consequently we are getting lots of accidents when balls and people collide! Please bear with us while we trial this for safety reasons.
Children are welcome still to bring in tennis balls for patball etc, but to be played with hands and not feet. Again this is for safety reasons.
Thank you for your support and understanding.
Let's Dance:
AFC Wimbledon Foundation have FREE SPACES on their Let’s Dance session
Location: Aspire Centre, Southfields Academy every Thursday
We are very excited about all the plans we are making for our week long celebration of Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee later this year!
Watch this space...
One of the activities we are preparing for is a special Art Exhibition to which parents will be invited and we are asking you to send in any of your used stamps (featuring The Queen's head on them please), so that we may use these in our designs.
There will be a labelled pot at the school gates for stamp contributions from next week.
Many thanks

A reminder:
We keep book bags, rucksacks, PE bags and ties (elasticated and standard) here at school.
We also still have some limited uniform in stock at school (check on ParentMail Shop for what is available).
Any other St Michael's School jumpers, cardigans and PE tops you require should be bought directly from Price and Buckand's website:
Please let the school know by 9am if your child is going to be absent.
Change of Pick Ups:
Please notify the School Office as early as possible regarding any change of pick ups, copying in your child's teacher every time as well.
Lunches:
Please stick with either school lunch or packed lunch for the half term.
Also, please remember: we are a NO NUTS school.
Our Library:
Party Time!
Natalie decided that her eleven Junior Librarians (JLs) have worked so hard that they deserved a little thank you party!
This was postponed from before Christmas and the children had a great time yesterday, sipping juice and nibbling biscuits in their favourite environment - the School Library!
Thank you to all our JLs for keeping our Library in such great order.
Inclusion News:
This is a reminder to complete the survey produced by the Inclusion Department 'Your Opinion Counts'.
This a really quick questionnaire to try to assess your opinion on a potential name change and how you would like our Inclusion Department to keep in touch.
Did you know that we have 28 different languages spoken in this school?
Thank you to these year 6 pupils who this week have taught us to say good morning in Russian and Italian...

Mental Health & Well Being:
Parents Wellbeing Webinar:
Please see the following message from the Southfields Trailblazer Mental Health Support Team:
To coincide with Children’s Mental Health Week and the run up to half term, we will be offering parents from all schools across the cluster the following webinar for parents on Monday February 7th at 7pm:
We are thrilled to present the results of a recent survey conducted amongst our pupils, where we asked them their thoughts on how safe and supported they feel at St Michael’s school.
302 pupils (out of a potential 330 responses due to a number of children off with Covid) were asked a series of questions relating to behaviour and attitudes and the results were so pleasing and reassuring.
Nearly 90% stated that they feel St Michael’s is a calm and safe place to be and over 85% feel they are supported and respected.
A very pleasing 97% of pupils agree that it is okay to be different and that as a school we value each person’s uniqueness and regard everyone as being special.
95% pupils feel assured that bullying will not be tolerated at St Michael’s and over 97% agreed that there are very clear and high expectations of behaviour.
Nearly 84% of our pupils understand that being late for school causes disruption to their learning but our soft start process in the morning may confuse some of them as to when late actually means late.
Finally, 93% say they feel entirely happy at St Michael’s and the remaining 7% who said they were unsure have now been identified so that we can address any individual issues they may have.
Moving forward we will continue to target those children who may feel less supported and respected and will reinforce the importance of Growth Mindset and good behaviour to continue to create a calm and safe atmosphere in school.
Thank you to all our pupils for their honesty and openness and it is wonderful that it is quite clear how happy they are in our great school.
We will be working together for the good of all to ensure the continued safety and happiness of all our pupils at all times.
Reflection and Prayer:
Vote For Schools:
This week, during "Vote for Schools" - which takes place in Tuesday worship across all year groups - our pupils had the chance to discuss the following question:
'Should more people join in with religious celebrations?'
To carry on the conversation at home, see some of the views opposite.
This week's Gospel Value was Kindness:
Here is 3H singing a "Kindness" song..
Next week's Gospel Value is Patience:
Father God,
I pray for patience and understanding in all areas of my life.
Let me walk in them at home, work, and in my relationships.
That I may give You the glory in all I do.
Amen.
Our PTA:
This week was a rather exciting one for the PTA Committee as we had a face to face catch up to begin planning the summer fete! We obviously have a few months to go but it is so lovely to be looking ahead with much more confidence that the pandemic may nearly be over.
This week we have a few reminders and diary notes for you to make:
Firstly the school disco is next Saturday (5/2) and tickets are available until midday on Friday. The reps will also be circulating a list to record collection details for anyone who is not collecting their own child.
The spring social planning also commenced this week and we are really excited to be sharing details very soon. For now, please mark your diaries for Saturday March 12 and keep an eye out for further details.
Finally, as we started with the first summer fair comment of the year, we will end with it too! The fair is on Saturday June 25 so again, make a note on your calendars.
Have a fabulous weekend and enjoy the mild weather we are set to have!
Rachel, Naomi & the PTA Committee
... and finally....
Thank you to the two parents and the two members of staff who helped to replace the back board on our basketball set this week...
