On Wednesday we welcomed Heather from Southfields Library to come in and launch their Summer Reading Challenge to a special whole school assembly. We look forward to hearing progress on how everyone is getting on with this popular annual event that really engages the children with their reading over the summer holidays. Watch this space....
We had two amazing performances yesterday, one from Reception classes in the morning focusing on their learning up to now. And they were nothing short of amazing!
And then of course there was the much anticipated Year 6 Production in the evening which certainly had the wow factor!
What stars in the making we have at both ends of the school and many congratulations and thank you to all those involved.
Yesterday morning Year 4 took part in a Norman Workshop to learn more about the Anglo Saxons and the Norman Conquest. Check out below some fabulous photos of their battles and role play....
This morning , as I write Year 2 are spending the day at the brilliant Princess Diana Memorial Garden in Kensington Gardens. We look forward to hearing all about their time there when they return.
And here in school Year 1 have a Dance Day Workshop.
Reception Sports morning was a lovely sunny event earlier today on the school field and well done to all the children who took part and were such great sports.
What a very wide variety of creative activities the children across all year groups have enjoyed this week.
Next Week:
On Tuesday Year 3 are visiting the River Wandle as part of their topic and then we are welcoming our SAS families to a special summer tea party in the afternoon.
Let's Rock concerts are taking place to parents on Wednesday and Thursday and in the evenings we will be holding our Open Evenings. It will be great to have everyone in for face to face interaction and to be able tp showcase the children's work and their beautiful classroom displays.
Year 6 are at their Leavers Service at Southwark Cathedral on Thursday morning and then on Friday it is MOVE UP DAY! This is when the children will meet their new teachers and any in year transfer children will come in and join us then too.
And then last but not least.... drum roll.... there will be inflatables on the field on Friday Fun afternoon!
It's so lovely to see the old favourite traditions are now back with a vengeance after a two year hiatus. Thank you to our wonderful PTA once again for facilitating the inflatable afternoon for us.
Finally, don't forget that clubs go live tomorrow morning at 9am.
Wishing you all a sunny weekend ahead -only two weeks to go!
Best wishes

House Morning/Sports Day Review:
We have reflected on House Morning on Friday 1st July and feel that it was a great success!
The children's feedback about the event has been very positive and they had a fun morning.
DJ Harris (aka Jason!) did an amazing job with the music which really created a great atmosphere on the field and there was lots of dancing from parents, staff and children.
The children really liked the medals and of course there was some disappointment about not winning medals but this is also a valuable lesson for our children. We cannot always win but we can learn to be graceful in defeat and be happy for our peers who did win.
Next year I will be looking at the inclusion of a relay or some fun races to make the track events more inclusive.
Parents have been very positive about the event and we appreciate you staying back and allowing the children to focus on the events.
Well done to everyone involved and being such a great school community.
A special thank you to all the staff for adapting to the new format and doing such an amazing job making the morning a positive experience for the children.
And congratulations to Melrose for winning the house cup for house morning!

Wombles Day:
Saturday 9th July: 9am - 6pm
Unveiling a sculpture to recapture that Womble spirit!
AFC Wimbledon supporters are combining to unveil a lasting legacy to the Wombles – and a fun schedule of events will make it an unforgettable occasion!
The highlight of ‘Wombles Day’ will be the big reveal of a wood-carved Wombles sculpture at 11am called the Orinoco & Womble Bench outside AFC Wimbledon’s stadium at Plough Lane.
There will be a serious edge to the fun event too as organisers WiSH (Wimbledon in Sporting History), with the help of Dons Local Action Group, have arranged a community litter pick and recycling initiative that could become a monthly clean-up.
Volunteers will be recapturing that famous Womble spirit as the lovable creatures apparently spent their days helping the environment by collecting rubbish on Wimbledon Common!
“Wombles Day” runs from 9am until 6 pm at the stadium and includes the following:
· Live music and the launch of the Wombles from the Lane CD
· Stadium Tours including access to the Greatest Story exhibition
· ‘Meet the Wombles’ – Uncle Bulgaria, Mme Cholet and Haydon
· Special commemorative T-shirts presented to children
· Prizes, raffles, games and giveaways
· Food stalls and drinks

Hope:
Prayers of Hope from Lourdes:
Lord Jesus,
Hope overcomes
Hope heals
Hope restores
Hope inspires
Hope conquers
Hope frees
Hope is your gift to the world
Thank you
Amen.
Almighty God,
You reach into the darkness with hope, truth and light. Stretch out your strong hand in this situation, hold and rescue those who have suffered. Let your almighty love move mountains, cross seas and breathe life into the darkest places. Light that redeems.
Light that restores.
Light that heals.
Light that protects.
Light that saves.
There is nothing higher, stronger or greater than your love.
We trust in you.
Amen
Lord,
Your hope arises with each dawn, pushing back the rubble of our lives.
Each new day reminds us of your grace, you paint hope across our skies.
Into the deafening cry of hopelessness you whisper love. Love that catches us, holds us. There is no end, just new beginnings. No finish, just new starts.
Into your resurrection we follow you to bathe in hope.
You are alive! Not only in the world but in us. And so we carry your hope within our souls. Help us to lift our eyes, and feel resurrection hope arise in our lives.
Amen
Supporting the Ukraine:
The school and local community continues to find ways to support the people affected by the events in the Ukraine...
Summer Holiday Camps for Ukranian Children:
24th July - 3rd September 2022
"Premier Inns are funding 20,000 places at fun, activity-filled Holiday Camps this summer - offering a respite for the thousands of Ukrainian children that have been displaced from their homes.
A summer of fun, with action-packed days of sport and activities, awaits children that get involved - it’s the perfect environment to make friends, develop new skills and build confidence, and every step is being taken to ensure that any language barriers are not an issue."
I scream, you scream, we all scream ice cream!! Thanks so much to our year 4 and 5 parent/carers for serving the cold treats and to all the delighted children who enjoyed them! When we looked at the weather forecast last week and saw it was looking rather warm, we thought an ice cream was the perfect way to end the school week. Thank you to everyone for supporting this initiative!
As we head into the penultimate week of this year, we are looking forward to the inflatables day next Friday. This is the last of the PTA events for the year and an opportunity for the children to enjoy the inflatables for another couple of hours after school! The field will be open to all school families (not open to the general public) from 3 to 5pm and we are asking for £2.50 for one child or £5 for two or more children as you enter. Then once in, you have unlimited inflatable access for the two hours! The Church café will also be on the field serving refreshments.
We need volunteers to help man the inflatables so please let us or your reps know if you are able to help for any time between 3 and 5pm.
Thank you to those who attended the final PTA meeting of the year Tuesday night. We updated everyone on the fete profit (£16.1k) and general feedback as well as the plans in place for next academic year. As always, the minutes will be on our website for your information and please get in touch if you have any questions.
We are still searching for PTA committee members for next year. Thank to everyone who has volunteered to be a Parent Rep, the spots are filling quickly. But we really need people to volunteer for the PTA Committee. Without a committee there will be no PTA so please let us know if you are interested in any of the positions available.
We hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. Enjoy the amazing weather, tennis finals if that’s your thing and we wish everyone a great final full week of this academic year!
