A very warm welcome back to all our families! It has been wonderful to see the children return with such enthusiasm, energy and a real sense of joy. We hope you all had a restful and happy break.
This term, our whole school community is exploring the Fruit of the Spirit—a way of thinking about the positive qualities we strive to grow in our lives and relationships. Each week we will focus on a different element, helping our pupils connect faith, character and everyday choices.
“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” Galatians 5:22–23
We have been helping the children to understand that just like fruit grows on a tree, these qualities grow in us when we practise them each day — at home, in school and in the world around us.
This week we began with Joy. In our assemblies and classrooms, we’ve talked about what joy looks and feels like, and how it can be shared with others even when life is challenging. We also reflected on Mary’s prayer from the Bible (often called the Magnificat), a beautiful expression of joyful praise and thankfulness that reminds us to notice the good in our lives and to celebrate God’s gifts with grateful hearts.
Next week, we will be exploring another element of the Fruit of the Spirit - peace, building on what we’ve already learned about who we are becoming as a caring, compassionate community.
As we settle back into school life after such a busy and festive holiday period, many families experience a few wobbles at home. Research into children’s wellbeing and behaviour shows that returning to routines after a break can be challenging: children’s sleep patterns, emotions and self-control all take time to recalibrate and this can show itself through increased tiredness, emotional outbursts or tricky behaviour at home. This is completely normal. Studies also show that consistent routines, calm boundaries and reassuring conversations help children feel secure again, making it easier for them to manage their emotions and behaviour both at home and in school.
Please know that we see this settling-in period as a shared journey between home and school and we are here to support your child, and you, as we re-establish expectations and rhythms together.
Have a peaceful weekend.
With best wishes,
Mrs Harris
Headteacher
