Dear Parents and Carers

We began the new half term with some sunshine and have been ducking the showers since then.

The first of the four Year 6 Level 2 Cycle Training sessions took place from Tuesday to Friday and all students passed with flying colours. Especially tricky for them navigating the rain but all good experience for them!

Year 1 had a lovely sunny walk around the local area on Tuesday and all agreed that the children behaved exceptionally well and everyone enjoyed exploring.

Yesterday and today the whole school has benefited from age appropriate First Aid training - although one class is still to have this next week.  Teaching this valuable life skill is  part of our commitment to safeguarding and health and safety for all our children.  

Yesterday during the special Assembly led by Millie from Sustrans, I spoke to the children about appealing to their parents to help with manning the barriers at any point during this six week trial period which commences on Tuesday.  Even if you are only able to offer your time for one session we would be extremely grateful and are happy as a school to provide childcare support whilst you are volunteering your time.  There are also some coffee vouchers to entice you - see more below.

This morning Miss Cunningham led a special Diwali assembly and our reception children attended their first whole school worship.

The SAS pupils have been busy preparing for the special Remembrance assembly they will be leading for the whole school (and their military families) next week.

Speaking of Remembrance, we have now launched our Poppy Shop and the Lead Ambassadors are all ready for you to bring in your charitable donations in exchange for all the various Royal British Legion items on sale between now and next Friday.

As I was looking forward to next week's events I noted that 'thankfulness' is our gospel value. I reflected back to some training that the staff undertook prior to half term and how feedback to one another is so important.

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32

We are looking forward to an evening of fun at the field on Saturday night. Everyone should have received their wristbands for entry, donut and drink and tokens for hot dogs if ordered. If anyone has an issue with their order please email pta@stmichaels.wandsworth.sch.uk and we will do what we can to resolve it.

Tips for tomorrow:

- gates open at 5.30pm - Mrs Harris will be on the gate to welcome you with other members of the PTA

- wear your wristbands for entry and don't forget your hotdog tokens

- bring your own re-usable mugs for tea and coffee to cut down on waste

- dress for the weather - it's been wet so come prepared

- get the littles to use the loo before leaving home as access to the pavilion will be restricted given the hot water and food heater risks

- bring your sparkling smile but no sparklers please! Light up wands, glow sticks and torches all welcome!

"Please pass on our thanks to all the children, parents, teachers and staff at St Michael's CE School for the Harvest donation to the Wandsworth Foodbank.  It weighed in at 222.8 kg which we estimate provides 530 meals for our neighbours who do not have enough money to buy their own food.

Year 6 Level 2 Cycle Training:

Please be reminded that there are still spaces on the Level 2 Cycling Courses.  

There are three more sessions to come.

Please be aware that this is an onroad course lasting for 4 x two hour sessions in the afternoons from Tuesday - Friday.

Parent Prayer Group:

Meetings will take place just after drop off on the first Monday of each month in the Oasis. 

Please feel free to pop any prayer requests into the box provided, situated in the front office.

School Streets Needs You!

Please see the message below from our current parent volunteers:

"Hello all, we need more volunteers for the school street group. Many parents supported this initiative and it is thanks to them that we will have the scheme running in our school on Viewfield Road from the 7th of November onwards. We have two barriers that each require someone to stand by them for an hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon. The barriers will make the crossing of Viewfield Road safer where it meets Granville Road. Three parents have volunteered so far, which is not enough to cover the time slots. Your support will be immensely appreciated even if it’s just for an hour per week. The more parents we have the easier it will be to share the load. Even if it’s just for an hour per week. We would like to point out that we will need the help of volunteers for six weeks, the aim is to have ideally 20 volunteers for the first six weeks to launch the scheme just to make sure that things are running nice and smoothly.

Lost Property:

We would politely ask parents not to walk through school to the Lost Property cupboard from now on please.

All named lost property will be returned to the appropriate child in their classroom.

SENCO Surgery

Tuesday mornings, 8:30am

As all parents know, they are able to make an appointment with the class teacher and/or SENCO to discuss concerns they have about their child's learning and development.

In addition to this The Inclusion Team would like to offer parents quick, drop-in opportunities where they can ask Mrs Harris (Acting Headteacher, SENCo and Mental Health Lead) questions they have about their child.

At the moment these sessions will be run on a first come first served basis, so there may be a queue.  Please come and wait in the School Office.
