God Bless Her Majesty, Long Live The King
Welcome back to Autumn Term 1.
I trust you have all had a wonderful and refreshing summer break .
The children certainly seem to be raring to go and have hit the ground running, despite the rain!
We have loved having our new little visitors in for their 1:1 and taster sessions with their Nursery and Reception teachers this week and look forward to having them in permanently from next week.
A special warm welcome to all our new families who have joined us in year this term too. I do hope you will enjoy your time here at St Michael's now that you are part of our school community.
We've also enjoyed welcoming parents to our "Meet The Teachers" sessions this week to meet the Phase team and SLT and I do hope you found this useful.
This morning is of course tinged with great sadness for the whole nation, as well as the Commonwealth and wider world. You will by now have received a letter from me and there are plans for us to commemorate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's amazing reign during the course of next week. In the meantime, I spoke to the children in a brief service this morning as a mark of respect to a very special monarch on her sad passing.
Best wishes for the weekend.
Jesus exchanged the glory of a heavenly throne to be a servant.
We thank you that you gave us Elizabeth our Queen a heart to serve her people,
and the strength and forbearance to remain devoted in serving all who were before her:
Please help us to follow her example to serve one another, and to seek the common good,
She was Royal, yet servant-hearted.
We ask that you comfort her family and our nation as we remember and celebrate the life of Queen Elizabeth. We ask for your blessing on King Charles - give him strength and kindness just like his mother’s.
May we always remember our special Jubilee celebrations here at St Michael's.
Don't forget to look out for updates on school life throughout the week on Facebook and Twitter so you don't miss out.
Meet the Lead Ambassadors for 2022-23:
We are delighted to introduce our eight new Lead Ambassadors who are replacing the previous Head Boys and Girls Roles.
They are all great role models and we know they will do themselves proud and represent us beautifully to the wider community.

If any kind parent has space in their driveways for any of our members of staff struggling to park in the mornings we would be very grateful.
Please message the school office if you are able to help.
Please try to notify the School Office as early as possible regarding any change of pick ups, always copying in your child's teacher as well.

Also, please remember: we are a NO NUTS AND NO SESAME school.
Please be reminded that birthday treats, such as cupcakes or sweets or lollipops, each need to be indivudally wrapped for distribution at the end of the school day .

A flyer has also been sent out via parentmail.
As all parents know they are able to make an appointment with the class teacher and/or SENCO to discuss concerns they have about their child's learning and development.
In addition to this The Inclusion Team would like to offer parents quick, drop-in opportunities where they can ask Mrs Harris (Deputy Headteacher, SENCo and Mental Health Lead) questions they have about their child.
These sessions will start on Tuesday 13th September 2022 at 8:30-9am and run each week. If you wish to attend please come to reception after drop off.
At the moment these sessions will be run on a first come first served basis, so there may be a queue.
If necessary we may move to a sign up or booking system but we wanted to see how many parents needed these sessions and how well they are attended.
Reading For Pleasure At Home:
We began our House Day this morning with a time of quiet reflection, giving thanks to the service shown by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
We focused on what a wonderful lady she was - a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and leader of our nation and The Commonwealth.
We discussed the quote below in the special Jubilee Book that each child received earlier in the year, and Mrs Grant suggested that they read this again at home with their familes over the weekend to celebrate a life of great service.
There will also be a special worship on Monday morning.
If you took part in this year's Summer Reading Challenge please remember to go and collect your prizes from there if you haven't yet done so. The closing date is tomorrow, Saturday 10th September but there is leeway to extend this for readers who have started to complete the Challenge.
Heather from the library will be coming in for a special assembly later in the term to give out the certificates to all who completed the challenge!
The Outdoor Library has been in use since the start of term and the children love losing themselves in a book in the fresh air at breaktimes and lunchtimes.
Here Are Some Of Our New Displays:
A prayer for back to school,
with thanks to Miss Cunningham:
Gracious God, we come to you at the beginning of this academic year with our many feelings, expectations, fears and hopes.
Help us to remember, we have the comfortingassurance from you: "I will always be with you."
Loving God, for all of us this is a time of transition. It is transition from the work and leisure of summer back to the classroom.
It is transition from time spent with family and friends.
Give us patience with ourselves as we transition as well as patience with one another.
May our teachers begin the school year with renewed strength, free of weariness, and ready to take on each day with grace, wisdom and kindness.
For leaders, Governors, support staff, administration staff we ask that we will build each other, encourage each other and work together to support and provide each other with all the resources needed.
We ask for teachers, students and parents to be filled with compassionate hearts and kindness toward each other. For patience, grace and forgiveness when it comes to mistakes and misunderstandings.
May every student grow in learning, skill and wisdom and enjoy being back at school.
We ask for these blessings, Lord, in the name of Jesus, who is the same yesterday and today and forever.
.. and finally.. these lovely prayers and gifts have come in from the children since the start of term....
Welcome back for the start of the new academic year! We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and enjoyed the amazing summer weather we had! There were lots of excited children (and parents!) on Monday and we hope the excitement continued throughout the week! Particular welcome to those new to our school and we look forward to meeting you during this term.
We were hoping that we would be celebrating being back together with our fun inflatables day today but once again we were defeated by the weather. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to help and we will work with AMG and the SLT to reschedule as soon as able.
Next Friday we have our first pre-loved uniform sale of the year and thank those who have volunteered to help. We still need more people both to sort donations during the day and sell from 2:30-3:30pm, so please let us or your reps know if you have any free time. We only have three sales a year so make sure you stock up on winter uniform!
The PTA is still looking for new Chairs so please get in touch if you would like more information or would like to volunteer for this position. It's such a vital part of our community which relies on volunteers so please let us know if you would like to find out more.
We hope everyone has a lovely weekend as we remember our Queen who we had so much joy celebrating just 3 months ago at our summer fete.
Another integral part of our community is our Bad Dads group. Bad Dads is open to all Dads/Carers of St Michaels, providing a way to get to know each other and bringing the men folk of Southfields together.
For several decades, Bad Dads have been meeting once a month at the Park Tavern and then, a few times a year, we stand strong to help the school for the events the PTA kindly organises. The volunteering that has been given by the past eras and the recent years has been simply awe inspiring. We are all definitely richer for that work, whether it be the funding that the PTA can add extra assistance to the school or the amazing life long relationships that the families build together.
The first Bad Dads gathering of this year is Thursday 22nd September 2022 from 8pm onwards in the back section of the Park Tavern. Generally after that it is the 1st Thursday of each month during term time. There is a WhatsApp group set up for reminders (and handy to get all the best advice on who to contact if you need to find an emergency plumber....) and also a separate group for the Reception and Nursery years so Dads joining this year can get to know each other.
If you would like to join the WhatsApp groups then please feel free to contact me and we look forward to seeing you on Thursday 22nd September.
