A very warm welcome back to Autumn Term 1 and I trust you have all had a wonderful summer break, despite the weather deciding to warm up just as we all return!
This is a start of term information update for all families before we greet the children back tomorrow and is aimed at clarifying the various start of term routines and events.
The first point of note below is a particularly important one.
See you all in the morning!
Ann-Marie Grant (AMG)
Headteacher
Important Note:
Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC):
You may be aware from media coverage that the government has asked some schools to close or partially close due to the presence of reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) in their school buildings. We understand that this is an unsettling news story and that it may naturally have led you to wonder about the safety of our school building.
I have been in contact with our assigned school surveyor and he has confirmed that we are fortunate to have undergone extensive building works over the past 14 years and so the school building has been checked. Having said that, I have still requested a survey check to be 100% sure. This will happen asap. In the meantime, the school is open to welcome back children safely on Wednesday .
Start of Day times:
I look forward to opening the gates on Wednesday!
We are continuing the staggered soft start. Gates open at 08:30 for Years 1-6.
Children can come through any of the gates on Granville Road and walk into school.
Gates close at 08:40.
End of Day Times:
The times for the end of school are as follows:
- Nursery: 3:00
- Reception - Year 2: 3:05
- Years 3-6: 3:10
The children will be led out to the designated areas in each playground and any uncollected children will be taken to the main office.
Please keep an eye on the younger siblings running around the playgrounds as the gates are all open.
There are still some spaces on some clubs so do take a look to see if any are of interest in the Parentmail shop.
Calendar:
We have been putting dates on the calendar already for this academic year. The Christmas schedule is already up and will be updated as the half term progresses. We will send details in due course.
Please do look at the calendar to check year group assembly dates, term dates and special events taking place.
The dates for this year are published on the school website. Term Dates Link
Please avoid taking time out for holidays during the school term. The government are closely monitoring attendance and we have to report / record attendance on pupils. Taking days just before we break up for the holidays / start of the new term does disrupt learning. Thank you for your support. Please note that holidays taken during term time will be unauthorised.
Free School Meals:
This year all children will be entitled to free school meals under the Mayor of London's initiative. There is no need to write in - it is automatic.
You only need to notify us if your child is changing from school lunches to packed lunches please so that the kitchen team can know numbers.
And we continue to request that once children have decided on whether they are having a school meal or a home packed lunch they need to stick with this for a whole half term please.
Please also note that if you receive any of the following: Income Support, Income-based Jobseekers Allowance, Income-related Employment and Support Allowance please let the office know as we can get additional funding for the school budget.
School Trips:
The teachers are in the process of planning the enrichment trips and workshops for the year ahead.
We have a planning overview in place so that you can see what will be taking place.
Some dates are to be confirmed but it will give you an idea of the exciting plans ahead.
Please try to notify the School Office as early as possible regarding any change of pick ups, always copying in your child's teacher as well.
Many thanks
Birthday Treats:
Please be reminded that birthday treats, such as cupcakes or sweets or lollipops, each need to be individually wrapped for distribution at the end of the school day .
(And please remember our NO NUTS AND NO SESAME POLICY)
Thank you
Walking to and from school unaccompanied:
For Years 5 and 6 only
Please ensure you complete the online form LINK and return to the school office so that we have a record of any permissions given.
If your child is walking to school unaccompanied please be extra vigilant in advising the office by 9am if they are going to be absent from school. This is a vital safeguarding requirement.
Thank you.
INSET Days September 2023
This year we covered all the important topics such as Safeguarding and Behaviour Management, developing the Quality of Education and our Inclusion provision and there will be a strong focus this year on our School Mission and Vision.
We are proud to be a church school and today were delighted to welcome a speaker from the SDBE to talk about our SIAMS Inspection, due in the next year.
Our Church School: Reflection and Prayers:
Almighty God, we thank you for the start of a new school year full of promise!
Bless our students with courage and strength to face the challenges that come their way.
Help them to make wise decisions that will lead to positive outcomes.
Give them patience and perseverance so they can stay focused and not give up when life gets hard.
Guide their teachers as they navigate this unprecedented time with grace, Godly wisdom, and clarity.
Bring peace, joy, and contentment into their lives as they learn from home or in classrooms.
Thank you for this new school year, Lord,
Amen
