This week we have welcomed a wide range of visitors to our school, from prospective new staff members, local EYFS teachers, members of the Santander Financial Education Recognition Scheme, a Mary Seacole actress, to an ex pupil septuagenarian over from Spain - who was amazed to see all the changes at St Michael's since his day (see below)!

Sporting wise, well done to the Sitting Volleyball team who represented the school yesterday and were celebrated at the end of our worship today. We are also delighted to welcome some Sheringdale pupils and their families for the inter-schools netball this afternoon led by Miss Bostock. We look forward to hearing more about it in the next web update.

This afternoon we have a Cake Sale alongside the Second Hand Uniform Sale that was called off last week due to the inclement weather! Look at these gorgeous treats made by one of our Year 6 boys!

We have some exciting Drama Workshops scheduled for Thursday for the EYFS and KS1 children and also lucky Year 4 are off to the Tower of London on Friday.

As we end our week having looked at peace as our gospel value I wanted to share with you, as someone special to our community shared with me, that peace is a gift that comes, we don't notice its coming. Rather like dew or frost it is very gentle and when we stop, pause and pray, peaceful presence comes.

As it is a new event, we were learning as we went but appreciate your patience and help. We particularly want to thank Mr Rochford for letting us use the PE equipment and the office team for collecting forms and helping with our comms.

Year 2 had a super special visitor this week!

It was a fun-filled workshop where Year 2 learned lots about Mary and how nurses like her helped shape the way we care for people today.Mary told them all about her exciting life and how she cared for soldiers who got hurt as well as her journey as a black women in the 19th century.

The children learned that Mary wasn't just any nurse – she was kind, brave, and had special tricks to make the soldiers feel better.

We made string telephones and investigated how they worked best, finding that sound travels clearly when the string was pulled tight.

It was a delight to welcome an ex pupil who left here in 1962 , lives overseas and was keen to take a trip down memory lane while he was over visiting family in the UK.

He was amazed to see the changes in the building itself and the stunning outdoor spaces we have.

In his day, the very strict dress code included blazers and caps and boys could only wear shorts all year round - he was once sent home for wearing long trousers!

They also used to tend a huge allotment space where our outdoor classroom now is, living off the land as much as they could post-war. He was put in charge of the potato patch!

And one of his favourite memories was dancing round the May Pole on MayDay! This was one of the only times all the children were allowed to come together in the playground because from Year 4 onwards the boys were kept in a separate part of the playground to the girls!
