Create, Equip, Partner

Dear Parents and Carers

Firstly, congratulations to the Year 4 team and new PTA chairs who helped pull off such a fabulous Fireworks event on Saturday! Despite the variable weather it was as ever a great community event and it was lovely to see so many familiar faces there, past and present.

We began this week with a special Monday morning assembly where I focused on the week's Gospel Value, Thanksgiving, and the sacrifice made by so many in the past wars.

And this morning we held a 2 minute silence at 11am. Well done to all the children for taking it so seriously and showing such respect to the fallen.

Thank you to all those who have contributed so generously to our Poppy Appeal these past two weeks - and to our able Lead Ambassadors for doing such a great job at collecting in the funds.

We will keep the shop open this afternoon after school too and next week we will let you know the total money you have all raised for The Royal British Legion.

This week we were delighted to welcome so many parents to the two Open Evenings and I do hope you all enjoyed meeting the teachers, studying your child's work and visiting their classroom to admire the stunning displays on view.

As I write, RFP is back! How wonderful to see the whole school -and every corner of it - full of avid readers and their loved ones! We love reading as a school and this is an event that we all very much look forward to sharing with our St Michael's families and friends.

Next Week:

Anti-bullying week will commence with a special launch assembly on Monday and there will be daily activities run in class each day to raise awareness of this important message.

The intiative will include Odd Socks Day on Monday and an 'Athletes in Schools' (virtual) visit on Wednesday. And the Year 5 Assembly to their parents on Thursday morning will also continue with the Anti-Bullying Theme.

Mrs Jennings and Miss Bostock (Assistant Heads) are hosting an English and Maths Workshop on Monday morning in the Hall - all Years 1 and 2 parents welcome.

Also on Monday Year 6 are off to the local Magistrates Court and lucky Year 5 are heading to the Science Museum on Friday.

In the meantime, rehearsals for our Christmas performances continue apace and it is going to start feeling more and more festive around school as the weeks go on....

Best wishes for the weekend ahead...

"We will remember them."

A Prayer for those lost in Wartime

Dear Lord,

We honor our veterans,

worthy men and women

who gave their best

when they were called upon

to serve and protect their country.

We pray that you will bless them, Lord,

for their unselfish service

bless them abundantly

for the hardships they faced,

for the sacrifices they made.

We respect them, we thank them,

we honor them, we are proud of them,

and we pray that you will watch over

these special people

and bless them with peace and happiness.

In Jesus’ name we pray for Peace in this beautiful world.

Amen

News and Notices:

Anti-Bullying Week:

14th- 18th November

"Reach Out"

On Monday 14th November there will be a whole school assembly to introduce the themes - as well as a call to action to be kind!

In the ensuing days there will be various related initiatives taking place in school, including "Secret Student", PHSE Lessons, a poster competition and culminating in an end of week celebration when each child will complete a 'compliment slip' to show appreciation of their table partner.

We will encourage them to compliment their peers using the growth mindset language of collaboration, persistence, reflection and innovation.

Odd Sock Day:

Monday 14th November

Children come in odd socks on this day to celebrate each child’s individuality, creativity and to understand it is OK to be different.

Children will join together, wearing their odd socks, to hear the key messages and themes planned for the week.

We want to impress upon the children that being different is unique, which is their special gift from God. On this day, we will be encouraged to wear school uniforms but with different ‘odd’ socks. Children will design their own odd socks, which will be displayed in the classroom. The colourful odd socks will represent each unique pupil at St Michael’s school.

Positive Post:

Each child will have the opportunity to write a postcard and deliver it to the "Positive Post".

The children will given a name of a student to write a positive comment on the positive post card and the Rights Respecting Ambassadors and School Council representatives will deliver these throughout the week.

Year 5 Assembly:

Thursday 18th, 8:50am

Year 5 are presenting a special Anti-bullying themed year group assembly to their parents on Thursday morning. All Year 5 parents are welcome to join us.

Road Safety Week:

We are excited to take part in this year's #RoadSafetyWeek and to learn more about making safe and healthy journeys to and from school.

We are working with @brakecharity to help create "Safe Roads For All", bringing together communities and professionals to shout out for everyone's right to make safe and healthy journeys on safe roads.

During the week the Junior Travel Ambassadors will be sharing with the rest of the school about why Road Safety is so very important and will be handing out stickers to everyone.

At this time of year hedgehogs are busy in preparation for the winter and hibernation; however, this is not as simple as it may seem as some hedgehogs require support throughout the colder months.

Our Inclusion:

As all parents know, they are able to make an appointment with the class teacher and/or SENCO to discuss concerns they have about their child's learning and development.

In addition to this The Inclusion Team would like to offer parents quick, drop-in opportunities where they can ask Mrs Harris (Deputy Headteacher, SENCo and Mental Health Lead) questions they have about their child.

These sessions will start on Tuesday 13th September 2022 at 8:30-9am and run each week. If you wish to attend please come to reception after drop off.

At the moment these sessions will be run on a first come first served basis, so there may be a queue.

If necessary we may move to a sign up or booking system but we wanted to see how many parents needed these sessions and how well they are attended.

Kind regards

The Inclusion Team

Reflection and Prayers :

Next Week's Gospel Value is :

Trust

Prayer for Unwavering Trust

O God, my Strength, I put my trust in You.

You have never forsaken those who seek You.

You have never let me down.

I know that You never will let me down because my life so far has been a testimony of Your greatness.

Mould me into Your image, and hold me close to You.

Show me how to mature as a Christian and improve on my walk of faith.

Steady my trust in You so that it never wavers, no matter what battles I face on this earth.

I declare that my faithfulness to You will be strong at all times.

Amen.

I Place My Trust In You:

Lord, You are the God of peace and love in Whom I place my trust. Give me a peaceful heart that rests in You and a loving spirit that pours fourth Your love to others.

Lord, You are the God of comfort and rest in Whom I put my hope. Give me a heart that abides in You so that Your comfort may stream through me to others who need comfort and strength.

Lord, You are the God of hope and joy in Whom I stand secure. Give me a spirit of devotion that worships only You so that I may be a worthy witness that points to Jesus, for in Him is all peace and love and comfort and rest and hope and joy and love.

I place my trust in You, Lord.

Amen.

Our PTA:

We were thrilled by the fantastic fireworks on Saturday - a truly spectacular show! As always, the PTA wants everyone to enjoy events safely, and, while we already follow HSE guidance on holding fireworks displays, we will continue to review our procedures to ensure the continued enjoyment of the display. It is an absolute highlight (!) of the PTA year and so much work is involved behind the scenes which we really appreciate.

We are especially grateful to all the people who made it all come together on the day/ night so thank you to all the Year 4 volunteers, building gazebos in the rain, serving out the stickiest of donuts and well loved Franklands hotdogs, the amazing fireworks team lighting up the skies and marshals keeping us in line. As with all things PTA, there are too many people involved to list them all but a few names deserve a special mention - the Year 4 reps, Greg, Myco and Sally, our fireworks lead, Chris Pillings, (and Steve Voss who kindly popped back to assist), Leisha who cooked the sausages as only a professional could, AMG for her stalwart duty as bouncer, and...there was some woman, said her name was Rachael....seemed to be everywhere...Our thanks to you all.

The PTA website has finally had some new faces added to its pages and also provides lots of information about what we do and when it is happening so do take a quick look https://sites.google.com/stmichaels.wandsworth.sch.uk/stmichaelsptasite

If you have any suggestions or ideas do get in touch with us at pta@stmichaels.wandsworth.sch.uk

Have a great weekend,

The PTA committee

P.S. No, it's not a mistake - I decided not to mention the season that is almost upon us - you all know it's coming...
