Welcome to the end of what has been a very hot week! The children have been very resilient with the heat! Let's hope next week is not as hot as they all participate in lots of additional sports as part of our 'Sports Week'.
It has been a week of welcoming visitors into school and on Tuesday I was delighted to begin the next round of welcoming the new parents whose children will begin in our Nursery in September. It only seems like last week when we did this for our current Mini St. Mikes children and now they are ready for their new reception class! On Wednesday morning there was a music tuition assembly to showcase the Peripatetic lesson options to parents of Years 1 and 2 pupils. It was great to listen to the musicians from afar as I was in a meeting but could still hear the delights of the the music. Well done to the children who performed. We look forward to the next phase of budding musicians emerging...
Year 3 had a very informative visit to the River Wandle on the same day and throughly enjoyed this local visit.
The highlight of the week has to be welcoming in the current reception parents for what was an amazing reception assembly on Thursday. The Reception children wowed us with their special assembly yesterday morning, on the theme "Saying Hello, Saying Goodbye". What great little actors and singers we have in our midst and well done to all the children and staff involved. I was so proud of them...
We also hosted an SAS tea party on Thursday for our military families yesterday afternoon and the sun shone as we made full use of the outdoor classroom for the event. It was a special event for the children who were, as always, excellent ambassadors. My thanks to Mrs Jopp for overseeing the SAS, a weekly fun meet up for the military children.
Today is Mufti Day 3 and there are also two exciting trips taking place today: lucky Year 5 are currently at the Tower of London ("off with their heads!" ) - see pics below - and Year 6 are attending the Leavers' Service at Southwark Cathedral. Both classes doing us proud by being great role models and ambassadors.
Please do look at the photos..., they say so much about the school that words cannot... amazing pupils and staff and amazing opportunities as well as lots of fun!
Next Week.. is Sports Week. Children need to be in their PE kit all week please, and their House colour t-shirt for Sports Day. (More on this below)
But most importantly of all - it is the Summer Fete tomorrow! An advance 'AMG pink shoutout' to all who are helping set up, organise and support on the day! The sun will be shiing down on us as always. I look forward to seeing you all on the gate from 12 noon - and a huge thank you in advance goes to the PTA and their team of helpers for working so hard for what I know will , as always, be the event of the year!
Best wishes for the weekend ahead
AMG, Headteacher
Attendance:
Our target for the year is: 97%
Our attendance for the year to date is: %
This week our attendance was: 96.8%
Well done 1C for 100% attendance this week
This week there are pupils who have had 10% or more absence in this school year to date, falling under the Government's 94% attendance guidance.
Punctuality:
We have been asked by our Governors to monitor punctuality at St Michael's on a monthly basis from now on.
This week there were 22 late marks recorded which related to 19 pupils
Punctuality is a life skill and we ask ALL families to ensure their children are in on time. Being late for school impacts and disrupts the whole class and shows discourtesy to the teaching staff.
Thank you for your support in ensuring your child is 'in line, on time, every time'.
Our PTA:
Raffle tickets, wristbands and tokens are bought, some may even have made it home in book bags.
WhatsApps are flying and reaching a crescendo.
Volunteers and performers are ready to go.
Lucky dip, gunge and much more is prepared.
Inflatables and candy floss machines are booked (hopefully ! ) and donations are sorted(ish).
It can mean only one thing - the Enchanted Kingdom is calling us all.
Wind up the children, give them sun block and a sun hat and set them free to be enchanted ….Saturday on the field from 12noon...
Post recovery can be done at Park Tavern from 7.30pm so please come along so we can thank you for all your help - and if you didn’t help you can come and thank us for all our work !
See you all at noon tomorrow on the field.

Year 2 Visit to Battersea Park:
Year 2 enjoyed a fun and sunny day at Battersea Park Children's Zoo on Friday. They got to explore the zoo and look closely at the different animal enclosures, along with taking part in an educational workshop all about animal needs and their habitats.
The children had a competition on which team could make a fun enrichment activity robot for the meerkats, with the winning team getting to have their robot filled with food and have it shared with the meerkat.
They even had an animal facts hunt to complete!
Wow, What a fun-filled day!

Sports Week:
We have a fun packed week planned from Monday, starting with the visit of two Team GB athletes on Monday 26th June and which will culminate in a special House Sports Day Competition on Friday 30th June between 9am - 12 noon for children in Year 1 across to Year 6. (Reception will have a separate sports aftrnoon later on)
After Sports Day morning children will come back to school for a brief break then there will be a family picnic on the field from 12:45-1:15 (weather permitting).
If parents are coming please bring the picnic with you rather than send it in with the children in the morning.
Parents are warmly invited to come and watch the competition on Friday morning but will need to stay on the perimeter of the field until lunchtime please due to the number of children involved.
Athletes Visit:
We are thrilled to be welcoming two elite athletes to talk to us on Monday 26th June:
For the whole of Sports Week we ask that children come in clean and fresh PE kit each day and for the Friday competition they need to wear their House colour shirt, as follows:
Seymour: Green
VViewfield: White
Granville: Red
Melrose: Blue
They will also need sun cream applied before they arrive in school each day please and it is also essential that they bring a hat and water bottle in this warm weather.
Reception Sports Day:
Thursday 6th July on the field:
Family picnic: 12:30-1pm (parents stay on the field while children are taken back to school to freshen up)
Followed by Sports Day: 1:30-3pm
We Love Reading:
The children enjoy reading in every nook and cranny inside and outside the school building!
Community Events:
St Barnabas Church Performathon:
Calling all performers for the second annual 12-hour Performathon at St Barnabas!
Free entry fundraiser for adults with severe brain injuries.
The organisers would also love to get the children involved so follow the link to create your own bunting design template, which they will then display at the fete for everyone to see!
As all parents know, they are able to make an appointment with the class teacher and/or SENCO to discuss concerns they have about their child's learning and development.
In addition to this The Inclusion Team would like to offer parents quick, drop-in opportunities where they can ask Mrs Harris (Deputy Headteacher, SENCo and Mental Health Lead) questions they have about their child.
At the moment these sessions will be run on a first come first served basis, so there may be a queue. Please come and wait in the School Office.
Kind regards
The Inclusion Team

Next Week's Gospel Value Is:
Reverence:
Reflections of the Heart:
Our God is an awesome God.
He is kind, tenderhearted, and merciful.
Our Father loves us with an everlasting love and He is always concerned about our welfare.
All that we need, He provides through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
God should always be revered and adored.
He should have our utmost respect.
Today, bless the Lord.
Lift up your praises to the One who is the living God, our God who is our Father.
Almighty God, giver of all that is good, we thank You for the precious gift of human life:
For life in the womb, coming from your creative power, For the life of children, making us glad with their freshness and promise, For the life of young people, hoping for a better world, For the life of people who are disabled, teaching us that every life has value, For the life of the elderly, witnessing to the ageless values of patience and wisdom.
Like Blessed Mary, may we always say “YES” to Your gift. May we defend it and promote it from conception to its natural end. And bring us at last, O Father, to the fullness of eternal life in Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen
.... and finally....
We always love having our Pets Therapy dog Nelson visit us and here he is having some special attention from some of the Year 5 girls who help us out in the office each day!
