The week began with us waving off Year 6 to their school journey to Osmington Bay in Dorset. They have been blessed with good weather and we have enjoyed all the many photographs that have been shared so far. We look forward to welcoming them home later today and hearing all about their adventures.
Earlier this week Year 3 had a fabulous trip to Danebury Hill Iron Age Fort and on the same day Nursery children held their Ugly Bug Ball on the field! What fabulous 'bug costumes' we spotted - from children and staff alike!
Yesterday Year 1 held a Phonics workshop for parents (both in person and on line) which we hope you found helpful. The link to the presentation is further down this update.
This week our Jubilee celebration planning has been hotting right up.... It kicked off today with Mrs Gottler and two of our Year 6 pupils taking some of our wonderful Jubilee artwork to Putney Library to present to our local MP Fleur Anderson. She, in turn, will be presenting ours - and those of 25 other local schools - to Her Majesty The Queen at Buckingham Palace next week.
We will be sending regular Jubilee updates throughout next week so you don't miss out on all the fun and games we have planned!
Finally, I am delighted to report that all St Michael's staff have now received defribrillator training and we are so lucky to have the correct equipment here in case of emergencies.
Wishing you all a sunny weekend ahead.
Best wishes
AMG Headteacher

St Michael's School Uniform Reminder:
Important:
We are very proud of our St Michael's school uniform and how it sets us apart and identifies us as as school, but unfortunately there are a number of children who are simply not complying to our dress code.
This event is full of practical tools that have already made a real difference for families, one parent said:
"We’ve had some real successes this weekend with one of our children who really struggles. We’ve been able to intervene to guide him to better ways of thinking."
Our Church School:
"Pupils are inspired by RE and recognise it as a challenging but safe space to explore their own and others' religious, spiritual and philosophical convictions critically and responsibly"
(SIAMS Inspection Report: February 2019)
Prayer and Reflection:
Next week's Gospel Value:
Pentecost:
Pentecost is a significant holy day in the Christian faith.
Pentecost is a holiday that celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the followers of Jesus Christ. It is celebrated on the seventh Sunday after Easter and falls on different dates each year, depending on the date of Easter.
This year it falls on Sunday 5th June
Almighty God, who on this day
didst open the way of eternal life
to every race and nation
by the promised gift of thy Holy Spirit:
Shed abroad this gift throughout the world
by the preaching of the Gospel,
that it may reach to the ends of the earth;
through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth
with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
The Book of Common Prayer
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.
Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.
All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.'
Acts Chapter 2 (NIV)
Service:
We are thankful for Her Majesty's long Service, which will be an added focus of this week's Worship
The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, says the Lord of hosts.
Haggai 2.8
God, save the Queen,
as we give thanks for Her Majesty’s
70 years of service to this nation
and to the Commonwealth.
With the splendour of silver,
the dignity of gold,
the sparkle of diamonds,
and the quality of platinum
may we seek to serve one another
and follow in the steps that she has trod
for the common good
and for the building up of your kingdom;
in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
Supporting the Ukraine:
The school community continues to find ways to support the people affected by the events in the Ukraine...
PE News:
House Champions for Tennis:
We announced the winners of the House competition for tennis.
It was very close, with Seymore winning by 2 points.
We have lots of talented tennis players at school.
Year 6 Cricket Festival:
8 boys and 2 girls attended the event. The children did 8 stations which helped develop batting, bowling and fielding skills. The children’s progress was noticeable by the end of the session.
Pupil Voice:
“I liked the trip because we could bond while we walked there. My favourite part was the batting activity using the bowling machines and the cricket nets. One thing I would recommend is to go to Spencer Cricket Club because the facilities are amazing” (Year 6 boy)
Sports Week:
Monday 27th May - Friday 1st June
Please note that we will not be running a specific Sports Day this year but instead we will be integrating sporting competitions within Sports Week.

We hope everyone has had the chance to read our fete newsletter which was sent out via parentmail earlier this week. If not, please grab a moment to do so as it’s full of information about the day and lead into the day and what you can do to get involved. And it looks beautiful!
This weeks message is all about what we would like to reuse or recycle for our fete. Can you help with any of these?
- Today is World Bee Day so if you have spare plastic pots, why not grab some potting mix, seedlings or small plants, and grow some plants for our plant stall? Helping our bees and our school!
- We know testing for covid has reduced with the end of the free test kits but we would still love any of the plastic bags in the testing kits for our fete tokens. Please send them in with your children as the office have a donation pot for them.
- Jubilee decorations – if you are decorating your house, street or workplace, please don’t throw your decorations away after the Jubilee. We would love to reuse them on the fete so if able, please keep them and we will have a drop off point after half term.
- Tombola – if you have anything lingering in the back of a cupboard that maybe you were given but won’t use or thought it was a good idea at the time, we will happily take it for our tombola (or other stalls as appropriate).
With the end of this half term fast approaching, we are all so excited about next weeks Jubilee events and thank AMG, the SLT, all staff and our amazing children for the time, effort and love they have put into these events.
