Definition

• Systemic vasodilator (it relaxes arterial smooth muscle more veins)

Treatment

• Preeclampsia : Current guidelines recommend treating SBP more than 160 mmHg for prevention of intracerebral hemorrhage. Initial treatment typically includes labetalol and hydralazine.
• IV volus : Intraoperative hypertension is usually controlled with an intravenous dose of 5–20 mg of hydralazine. ( IV 로 5-10mg 을 1-2분에 걸쳐 투여하고, 반응이 없으면 20분뒤 반복투여한다)
• Infusion : 5mg / hr 로 천천히 증량시키며 필요시 최대 15mg/hr 까지 줄수있다.

• Onset : within 15 min
• Duration : Antihypertensive effect usually lasts 2–4 hr.(or 6-8 hr)

• Side effect

headache, nausea, dizziness, sweating, and tremors, tachycardia. Labetalol, a β-antagonist, can counteract this effect
