Principal's Update

Dear Colleagues,

We will be holding the MT fortnight this week and I hope that all staff, whether we are MT teachers or not, encourage all our boys to speak using their MT. Take every opportunity, especially during the informal moments, to speak in our MT language. Do also encourage our boys to have a more positive attitude towards learning Mother Tongue.

This week, the Catholic Church enters Holy Week, and on Thursday, we have a special Maundy Thursday service to remind ourselves that to lead is to serve, symbolised by the washing of feet, and our happiness and purpose lies in the service of others. I leave us with this reflection for the week:

“The servant-leader is servant first. It begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first.

Then conscious choice brings one to aspire to lead.”

International Friendship Day and Easter Assembly

By:     Catholic Teachers and CCE Department

Relevant Levels:    P1 to P6

Date and Time of Event:    10 April 2023

Information Details:

Dear teachers

Our assembly on 10 April 2023 will be shared between International Friendship Day and Easter.

International Friendship Day (IFD) theme for 2022 - 2024 is Singapore in Asia. It is  a day dedicated to the understanding of Singapore's relations with neighbouring countries and beyond. The commemoration of IFD allows our students to be sensitised to Singapore's geopolitical realities, and to reflect on the importance of an active foreign policy to maintain Singapore's international space; openness to the international flow of trade, ideas and talent; cross-cultural skills and a global orientation; and the spirit of friendship and collaboration amongst different people.

It gives our boys the opportunity to:

We will be commemorating through Assembly, CCE (FTGP) and recess activities.

1) Assembly

Please log in to the Assembly Zoom at 12.45 p.m.

2) CCE (FTGP) lesson is in the SOW for IFD. Kindsville booklets and A-OK newsletters Issue 2 (Kindness Day/International Friendship Day) will also be placed in your pigeonhole on 6 April. Please go through the relevant pages on Indonesia after the CCE (FTGP) lesson. Soft copies can be assessed here: https://kindsville.kindness.sg/read

3) SSSPARK will be organising fun recess activities from 11 to 14 April for the boys during recess to learn more about different aspects of the various ASEAN countries.

Easter Sunday occurs six and a half weeks after Ash Wednesday, which makes up the 40 days of Lent. It is the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus from the tomb on the third day after his crucifixion. The space near Staircase 4 will be transformed into an empty tomb where the boys can go and reflect about its significance during recesses.

Thank you.

Online workshop invitation-Responsible Digital Parenting-"Building a Positive Digital Family Culture Together".

By:     P4 Year head

Relevant Levels:    All staff

Date and Time of Event:    15 April

Information Details: Workshop e-Brochure

Dear colleagues,

We are having an online parent's workshop on Responsible Digital Parenting-"Building a Positive Digital Family Culture Together".  We are inviting you to attend the workshop if it is a topic of your interest.

Date : Saturday, 15 April 2023

Time : 10.30 a.m. to 12 noon

Mode: Webinar

Meeting ID: 955 8449 5843

Passcode: 312822

Note: This workshop is suitable for all parents and is most effective when parent and child attend together.

Background:

The workshop is planned in response to concerns raised by our Primary 4 parents in handling potential issues which might arise from child's lack of control on time spent on their gadgets. Although we have the Mobile Device Management (MDM) in place to control our boys' screen time, we would like to adopt an intrinsic approach to encourage our boys to exercise self-control and make good choices. Families should adopt a postitive digital culture at home.

We have found an experienced speaker from TOUCH Community to share with us some insights and strategies with all our P4 parents. This workshop has received many good reviews from other schools and we are most grateful that we are able to bring this workshop to St Stephen's School.

Thank you.
