Principal's Update

Dear Colleagues,

Thanks to the all the teachers who spent Saturday with our P5 boys at the NE Show. It is always a tiring but rewarding effort as it creates a once in a lifetime experience and memories for the boys. I also want to thank the teachers for preparing and taking our boys out for the NSG, and especially for helping them to makes sense and reflect on their wins and losses.

In our effort to build a Culture of Care and a Culture of Learning, there have been a number of plans and PD (eg Circle Time, RP, PBCICO, Peer Support, Sustainability etc) to reinforce the character formation work with our boys. While we are explaining and laying out the road map, it can seem overwhelming but there is no hurry to do everything all at once. Let's take our time to practice what is appropriate in the moment as it arises, and we will eventually get there. I leave you with this quote:

“Success is a slow process, and quitting does not speed it up.”

Relevant Levels: P1 to P6

Date of Event/Programme/Item: 18 to 22 July 2022

Information Details: Dear teachers, we will be commemorating Racial Harmony Day next week. The theme this year is ‘Singapore: Our Multicultural Mosaic’. It focuses on the appreciation of the diverse races and religions that make up our multicultural society, and which contribute to our shared sense of cohesion and harmony.

Assembly on Monday will be in the classrooms for P1 to P4 pupils. For P5 and P6 pupils, they will bring their bags to the Hall and be dismissed from there.

As part of our commemoration, do come in ethnic attire on 21 July 2022. Please refer to the slides for more details.

Let’s work together to help our Stephenians to apply the theme in their lives, explore what it means to strengthen connection amongst communities, and take action to preserve racial harmony in Singapore.

Tier 2 Support Structure using RP & PBCICO

By: Discipline & Well-Being Teams

Relevant Levels: All

Date of Event/Programme/Item: Week 4 onwards

Information Details:

Dear Colleagues,

Enclosed are the materials shared during the PD session on how we can support our Tier 2 pupils.

We will begin the Positive Behaviour Check-In Check-Out (PBCICO) with the identified pupils (chosen as a school) and attach them to the recommended mentors. Our aims are to:

  1. Equip them with social skills to self-regulate better for emotional, behavioural & academic growth;

  2. Emphasise expectations and acknowledge appropriate behaviour by using the RP language and affective statements;

  3. Build greater TSR by assigning them a suitable Mentor as the 'go-to' trusted adult;

  4. Provide them with rewards, tangible or otherwise, to recognise and affirm positive efforts,s no matter how small the success may be.

Moving forward, we will continue to deepen our conversations with our pupils during the structured Circle Time. We will also provide Social Skills training to these Tier 2 pupils in anger management and relationship management by incorporating the Leader In Me strategies. Do empower our Peer Supporters to help their classmates to look out for each other using RP language.
