Principal's Update

Dear Colleagues,

I hope you had a wonderful CNY celebration this morning. I want to thank the MT dept for leading and planning the concert and liaising with the SSOBA to arrange for the lion dance performance.

As we go about enjoying the CNY holidays and festivities, let us remember the call by our Founder to strengthen our relationships.

It is impossible to please God if you do not live on friendly terms with others.

Total Defence Day: TD40 Electricity Disruption Exercise

By:  NE Committee

Relevant Levels:   P1 - P6

Date and Time of Event:  15 February, Last 2 Periods

Information Details:

Dear colleagues,

Our school will be commemorating Total Defence Day (TDD) on 15 February, with a TD40 Electricity Disruption Exercise.  TDD 2024 marks 40 Years of Total Defence (TD40). This year's theme continues last year's - ‘Together We Keep Singapore Strong’, and we will focus on Singaporean’s readiness and resilience in the face of crises and disruptions.

The school-wide disruption of electricity will take place in the last two periods (1 hour) to let our students experience the effects of such a disruption and learn to respond calmly and responsibly. Subject teachers will switch off all lights and fans in the room. We will not inform or prepare the boys for the disruption to allow them to have a more authentic experience.

Through this hour of electricity disruption, the subject teachers can continue to teach but must factor in the lack of lighting and other environmental and situational factors that comes with the energy disruption.

Class Reflection

In the last 15 minutes of the 2 periods, teachers will turn on just their laptop and the projector (still leaving the lights and fans off) to debrief the pupils using the slides (lower, middle and upper primary versions) available at:

S:\@DEPT_CHARACTER AND CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION (CCE)\Subcommittees\NE Commemorative Activities\2024\TDD

and our Google Folder https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1xAquwykSuamcawcnLRhZ_dzzGKMELFm4?usp=sharing

Subject teachers are to guide the pupils to:

·         unpack the exercise's significance

·         discuss responses to such disruptions

·     reflect on the importance of protecting our country’s crucial resources and creating sustainable alternatives.

Two key aspects to focus on in the 15-min Class Reflection:

Together,  we are all in this as a total defence community, for Singapore and our collective future.

Thank you for your efforts  for TD40!

Regards,

Ezri

SSS Students @ Chingay 2024 Pre-Show

Relevant Levels:   -

Date and Time of Event:  -

Information Details:

Dear colleagues,

Our NE Comm led some of our international students to Chingay 2024 Preview NE Show last Saturday, as part of our international-localisation efforts for our international/PR students. The theme this year is Blossoms, celebrating Spring and SG's multiculturalism and international friendships.

While Chingay had its roots in the early street parades during the CNY, over the years it has evolved into one celebrating the coming of a new year, of our multuracial and multicultural identity, and with international groups invited to join us each year too! Here are some wonderful short videos and photos from Ezri and See Ting who took the boys there, of the action and our boys in excited glee. Enjoy!

Ahead, you could look forward to the 'live' telecast of Chingay itself on the actual day too!
