Principal's Update

Dear Colleagues,

As we begin the new Term, I hope you had a restful holidays. I though I'd start the term with the poem by Robert Fulghum, 'All I Really Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten'

All I really I need to know I learned in kindergarten.

ALL I REALLY NEED TO KNOW about how to live and what to do and how to be, I learned in kindergarten. Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate school mountain, but there in the sandpile at Sunday School. These are the things I learned:

Share everything.

Play fair.

Don't hit people.

Put things back where you found them.

Clean up your own mess.

Don't take things that aren't yours.

Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.

Wash your hands before you eat.

Flush.

Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.

Live a balanced life, learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.

Take a nap every afternoon.

When you go out into the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands, and stick together.

Be aware of wonder.

Remember the little seed in the styrofoam cup. The roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that.

Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the Styrofoam cup, they all die. So do we.

And then remember the Dick and Jane books and the first word you learned, the biggest word of all: LOOK.

Everything you need to know is in there somewhere.

The Golden Rule and love and basic sanitation. Ecology and politics and equality and sane living.

Take any of those items and extrapolate it into sophisticated adult terms and apply it to your family life or your work or your government or your world and it holds true and clear and firm. Think what a better world it would be if all the whole world had cookies and milk about three o'clock every afternoon and then lay down with our blankies for a nap.

Or if all governments had a basic policy to always put thing back where they found them and to clean up their own mess.

And it is still true, no matter how old you are, when you go out into the world, it is best to hold hands and stick together.

Don't forget to spend some time reconnecting with your boys and have a great start to Term 3!

Keep Believing and Serving,

Timothy Goh

Term 3 Check-Ins

By: CCE and Year Heads

Relevant Levels: Primary 1 to Primary 6

Date of Event/Programme/Item: 27 June to 8 July

Information Details:

Dear FTs,

At the start of every term, we will do a Check-In Lesson Activity with the pupils during FTGP and this is to be completed by Week 1 (or latest by mid Week 2). The slides for the respective levels have already been parked in the CCE/Subcommittes/FTGP shared drive.

The lesson activity is designed to:

- Gather students' sentiments towards Term 3, including providing the opportunity for students to articulate what they are excited and worried about and

- Guide students to develop skills and knowledge to help them thrive in Term 3:

o Lower Primary (Pri 1-2): Establish routines to ensure students’ well-being

o Middle Primary (Pri 3-4): Manage time and identify students’ locus of control

o Upper Primary (Pri 5-6): Manage expectations and increasing demands

In addition to the Check-in Activity that is conducted by the teachers during FTGP, the pupils will also be doing a Check-In Survey via SLS.

Do inform and remind the boys on Monday. This survey is open to the boys from Monday 27/6 to Fri 01/7.

The survey is designed for teachers to obtain a sensing of students' readiness for school after the long break, as well as to discover students' concerns and stress points. The survey can also help teachers identify students who may require greater support. Thus, do also refer to the Check-In Survey responses and monitor the well-being of the pupils.

May we have a good, fulfilling Semester 2
