Principal's Update

Dear Colleagues,

I hope that you had an excellent start to the term, and thank you for your hard work in taking the boys out for their various learning activities on Monday and Tuesday. I want to thank Belle for taking the lead in coordinating the activities, and all the various programme owners for planning and making the arrangements, as well as Nick and support staff for managing the buses. As this is the first we have run this, do give your feedback so we can do it better and more effectively in future.

For our Staff VIA, we are still calling for food items to pack for around 150 beneficiaries, so if you are able to, consider contributing to the effort as you do your grocery shopping this weekend.

I hope that you have been enjoying the new staff lounge. I've found it a very refreshing space and I want to thank the project refresh team and SWB for setting it up and working hard to make it a reality for all of us. I leave you with this reflection for the week:

I feel good because the world is right. Wrong!

The world is right because I feel good.

You cannot see outside of you what you fail to see inside.

English Lit Week and MT Reading Campaign 2023

By:    EL and MT Dept

Relevant Levels:   All

Date and Time of Event:   Monday, 27 March 2023

Information Details:

Dear colleagues,

We will be launching our Mother Tongue Reading Campaign and English Lit Week next week (Term 2 Week 2). There will be an assembly programme on Monday in the hall from 1215pm onwards. P1s to P4s will have to start moving to the hall at 1205pm, P5s and P6s will remain in class and log on to zoom at 1215pm. We will use the morning assembly zoom link for this.

For Mother Tongue Reading Campaign, our theme this year is Books bring Happiness. The activity will be a scavenger hunt which will go on for two weeks. Mother Tongue teachers will be giving the boys a list of books for the boys to "hunt" for, after which there will be a SLS lesson whereby pupils can choose to upload a video of themselves reading. There will be two Chinese book vendors coming in on 30th and 31st April. The Malay and Tamil book vendors will be doing theirs online. The Mother Tongue teachers will be giving out the bookfair lists on 27th March. Please do encourage the boys to participate and read more Mother Tongue books.

The theme for English Lit Week is From Print to Screen. We have invited Felicia Low, author of the Sherlock Sam series, to give a talk on writing to the pupils on Monday, 27 March, during Assembly period. As for the reading activities for the week. P1 and P2 pupils will enjoy a storytelling session in the library by parent volunteers from Monday to Wednesday. P3 to P6 pupils will enjoy a short video of recommended reads by their peers. This video will be played by English teachers during lesson time. Please take note that there will be an English book fair on 28 and 29 March from 8.30am to 2pm. Felicia Low will be coming down for a book signing (on copies of the Sherlock Sam series) on 29 March.

Please refer to the attached for more information.

P1 and P2 teachers will receive the schedule for the storytelling sessions separately.

Thank you.

Date and Time of Event:   Survey to be completed by 31 March, Friday

Information Details:

Dear colleagues,

Thank you for all the hard work in the implementation of the "Whole School Experiential Learning Progrmame". This year, the various Learning Journeys ICs and SDT team are able to carry out our programmes at the start of the term when our energy level is higher in comparison to having them at the end of the term like we used to. We are sincerely grateful to have everyone's support in one way or another.  Although Day 2 was stormy at the start of the day, we were very blessed to be able to carry out all the acitivites for the levels as planned in the end.

Do help us improve on our programme and planning processes by completing the survey below.

Thank you.

Staff Feedback Experiential Learning

Maundy Thursday

By:    Catholic Teachers

Relevant Levels:   P1 to P6

Date and Time of Event:   6 April 2023

Information Details:

Dear teachers,

Maundy Thursday initiates the Paschal Triduum, the period which commemorates the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus. It is the Thursday before Easter, believed to be the day when Jesus celebrated his final Passover with His disciples. Most notably, that Passover meal was when Jesus washed the feet of His disciples in an extraordinary display of humility. He then commanded them to do the same for each other.

We will be having a Maundy Thursday Paraliturgy on 6 April 2023 from 0735 to 0800 during Ethics and Catechism period in the School Hall. Brother Nicholas will be here to share more with the boys about the Maundy Thursday.

All pupils will put their bags in the classrooms before heading to the hall for Morning Assembly and Paraliturgy. Please refer to the Google Sheet for more details.

Thank you.
