Principal's Update

Dear Colleagues,

It has been another busy Term 3 week and I want to congratulate our teachers and boys who have been putting in a lot of effort in the National School Games (NSG) and SYF. I also hope that you enjoyed being with each family over our fruit party.

You should be receiving an invitation to respond to the Staff Engagement Survey this week so do look out for it.

I leave you this week with this quote to reflect on in keeping with the Hari Raya Haji celebration:

“In some way, suffering ceases to be suffering at the moment it finds meaning, such as the meaning of sacrifice.”

― Victor Frankl

I also want to wish all our Muslim colleagues a Selamat Hari Raya Haji!

Credere et Servire.

Keep Believing and Serving!

Teacher Leader Conversations

Date of Event/Programme/Item: Peer Coaching

Information Details:

Reframing our mindset on Peer Coaching, Mentoring and Instructional Mentoring

To allow us to move forward better in our Peer Coaching journey, the Teacher Leader Team would like to sharpen our view of Peer Coaching by using a common lens for us to create our narrative and understanding.

We need to move towards seeing this as Peer Support. This is a developmental process to support each other in our classroom practice. The spirit of our unique blend of SSS Peer Coaching is to help each other and to withhold judgment and opinion.

Peer Coaching is the name we have chosen to refer to this form of professional development that we as a learning community would like to embark on to support Teacher Growth. To appreciate Peer Coaching, we need to stop using our lens for Coaching, Mentoring and Instructing.

Peer Coaching at SSS is intended to provide every teacher an opportunity to experience the process of;

  • observing others

  • providing feedback

  • and receiving feedback

to help sharpen our classroom practice. (Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw)

There should not be an expectation for the coach to be proficient and neither should the coachee be anticipating for the coach to provide answers. This relationship is not about authority/power but equality, where each person's interests and desires are respected without anyone dominating the relationship.

We want everyone to Connect, Communicate, Collaborate and eventually Co-create a deeper understanding of your classroom practice.

The Coach role is there to be our Mirror to help us reflect on our teaching by stating factually what was observed without judgement. We want everyone to be eventually comfortable looking into the Mirror.

Peer Coaching is intended to move us closer towards our Culture of Care and Learning @ SSS.
