Principal's Update

Dear Colleagues,

It has been a soul-searching week as we ponder the incident at RVHS. As we continue to pray as a community, let us also look out for each other and our mental well-being.

I would also like to make a final call for those of you who would like to apply for the Part-Time Teaching Scheme in 2022 so that we can project whether we have enough staff and can accede to the requests. Do submit your applications to me by 31 July.

We will be re-painting the school as part of MOE's General Repairs and Redecoration once every 5 years. Some colour schemes have been proposed and I would like to get your inputs and preferences before we confirm the colours. Please give your inputs using this survey form. https://forms.gle/6Yxjyjd56GPsX9Mh7

Managing Meltdowns

By: Student Management

Relevant Levels: Primary / All Staff / All FTs

Date(s) of Event / Programme / Item: July 2021

Deadline to Note: N.A. / Month 2021

Information Details:

Dear Colleagues,

As shared in Week 4 Staff Meeting, do use the slides as a guide to help you in managing unexpected challenging behaviour and meltdowns in class. The CALM strategy will help us diffuse an incident.

Prevention is always better than cure. Do continue to promote positive behaviour and encourage students' voice by addressing their concerns and at the same time set high expectations consistently.

Timely follow-up after the incident is critical and will include:

  • updating parents and engaging them to partner us in supporting the child;

  • explaining appropriate consequences to both student & parents;

  • teach and reinforce appropriate behaviour explicitly; and

  • restore and replace relationships through teachers' circle time or restorative practice.

Do come forward if you have any questions and need any form of additional support. Cheers!
